⚡ Sri Lanka Opens International Tender for 250 MW/1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System
The National System Operator (Pvt.) Ltd., under the Ministry of Energy, has launched an international competitive bidding process for the establishment of a 250 MW/1000 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage system structured as 10 MW/40 MWh AC capacity projects across 25 grid substations island-wide.

BOI welcomes its new chairman, Duminda Hulangamuwa, a chartered accountant with over four decades of experience in finance, tax, audit, and public policy.

Mr. Hulangamuwa joins BOI after serving as country managing partner of EY Sri Lanka & Maldives and continues to serve as honorary senior economic adviser to the president, representing Sri Lanka in high-level engagements with the World Bank and the IMF. He is also the former chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

In his first remarks to staff, the Chairman pledged to restore BOI's authority and rebuild it into a genuine one-stop shop for investors, part of a renewed push to close Sri Lanka's trade deficit and accelerate export growth.

📄 EOI document issuance closes: 8th July 2026 (2.30 p.m. Sri Lanka time)

The original closing date was 9th June 2026. This extension provides additional time for proponents to prepare and submit comprehensive proposals.
