Under the guidance of Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, the Commander of the Army, and on the instructions of Mrs Vindhya Premaratne, the Chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), refreshments were provided to Army personnel engaged in security duties during the Fourth Randoli Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa on 26 August 2026.

The programme was organised as a gesture of appreciation for the dedicated service rendered by the Army personnel who contributed to ensuring the security of the religious procession.

The Commander of the Army, Chairperson of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Colonel (Coordinating) of ASVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks attended the event.

Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted an inspection visit to several welfare projects of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit on 20 August 2026.

During the visit, the President inspected the Beauty Salon and Viru Kekulu Preschool in Panagoda, the Welfare Peopleโ€™s Restaurant in Kinnadeniya, and the Welfare Store, Tailor Shop, and Gents' Barbershop in Akuregoda.

During her visit to the Viru Kekulu Preschool in Panagoda, she observed the teaching methods, learning activities, and overall learning environment of the children. She also advised the preschool staff on maintaining childrenโ€™s records and adopting effective approaches to further develop the skills of children.

Moreover, during her inspections at the Welfare Peopleโ€™s Restaurant in Kinnadeniya and the welfare facilities in Akuregoda, she emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness, ensuring the proper storage and presentation of food and goods, further improving existing operational standards, and complying with government regulations when providing food and beverages to the public.

Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted an inspection visit to several welfare projects administered under the purview of the ASVU on 18 August 2026.

During the visit, the President inspected the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Canteen at Werahera and the Welfare Sales Outlet at Jawatta. She closely observed the overall operations of the establishments and provided guidance on maintaining proper cleanliness in both indoor and outdoor areas, systematically storing food items and other goods, and ensuring that food and beverages are served to the public in accordance with the regulations and standards imposed by the Government.

The Directorate of Veteransโ€™ Affairs & Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted the 10th phase of its islandwide welfare camp series for disabled retired personnel under the guidance of the Commander of the Army at the Headquarters of the 12 Infantry Division, Hambantota, on 07 August 2026. The initiative focused on addressing the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in the Hambantota District.

Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, graced the event as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU).

The programme was conducted for war heroes who sustained disabilities during the war and use artificial limbs and surgical appliances, war heroes retired on medical grounds, next of kin of fallen war heroes and next of kin of serving war heroes.

During the programme, an eye clinic was conducted for war heroes who sustained injuries while serving in the Army and their family members. Wheelchairs and crutches were also distributed among the beneficiaries.

Approximately 2,132 beneficiaries and participants attended the programme, while lunch was provided to all attendees by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

Members of ASVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks were also present on the occasion.

Mrs. Vindya Premaratne assumed duties as the 18th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at Army Headquarters, Colombo, on 06 August 2026.

Upon her arrival, the newly appointed President was welcomed by Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army.

Thereafter, Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, together with the President of the ASVU and Chairpersons of Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches, posed for a group photograph to mark the occasion.

The assumption of duties was marked by solemn religious observances, including the chanting of Seth Pirith. Subsequently, Mrs. Vindya Premaratne officially assumed duties and placed her signature on an official document, marking the commencement of her tenure.

Following the ceremony, she interacted with senior officers, officers and other ranks, sharing views on the continued welfare initiatives of the ASVU in support of the Army family.

Mrs. Vindya Premaratne assumed office as the 18th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) on 06 August 2026, upon the appointment of Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

Born to Mr. C.A.R.V. Colonne and Mrs. P.P.I. Swarnalatha, Mrs. Premaratne is one of four siblings, with two sisters and one brother. She received her primary and secondary education at Beruwala Central College, where she completed her G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination. She subsequently pursued and completed her G.C.E. Advanced Level at Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya.

Mrs. Premaratne has been actively engaged in the welfare activities of the Army Seva Vanitha movement and currently serves as the President of the Sri Lanka Artillery Seva Vanitha Branch.Through her leadership and continued involvement in welfare activities, she has gained valuable experience in supporting the wellbeing of soldiers and their families and promoting initiatives aimed at strengthening the welfare of the Army community.

As the 18th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Premaratne is committed to further advancing the organization's welfare objectives while building upon its established values of compassion, service and dedication. She places emphasis on strengthening welfare initiatives, supporting the needs of serving personnel and their families, and promoting programmes that contribute towards their wellbeing and empowerment.

Under the guidance of Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), a scholarship awarding ceremony was held on 30 July 2026 at Army Headquarters to recognise and encourage the academic achievements of children of Army personnel.

The programme was organised to support and further strengthen the educational aspirations of children of fallen and disabled War Heroes, retired War Heroes, serving Army personnel, and civilian employees serving in the Sri Lanka Army.

The event was graced by Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

During the ceremony, scholarships were awarded to 290 schoolchildren representing all Regiments of the Sri Lanka Army, who had achieved outstanding results at the 2025 G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) and G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examinations.

As part of this welfare initiative, school shoes valued at Rs. 489,269.00 were donated through the Army Commanderโ€™s Welfare Fund. In addition, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit granted scholarships at a total cost of Rs. 15,000,000.00, while new savings accounts were opened for all scholarship recipients at the Bank of Ceylon.

Under the directions of the President of the ASVU, financial grants of Rs. 25,000.00 each were awarded to 198 students who obtained nine โ€˜Aโ€™ passes at the 2025 G.C.E. (O/L) examination. Furthermore, enhanced scholarships of up to Rs. 100,000.00 each were awarded to 92 students who secured three โ€˜Aโ€™ passes at the G.C.E. (A/L) examination.

The Bank of Ceylon also presented each scholarship recipient with a gift pack comprising a school bag, an exercise book set, and a savings till.

Adding further significance to the occasion, two newly constructed houses, each valued at Rs. 1,500,000.00, were symbolically handed over to Lance Corporal M.R. Raja and Civilian Employee H.P. Thilakarathne, further demonstrating the Armyโ€™s continued commitment towards the welfare of its personnel and their families.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the scholarship recipients, followed by a group photograph and a tea reception.

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), under the guidance of Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the ASVU, conducted a Housing and Medical Financial Assistance Donation Programme on 30 July 2026 at the ASVU Office premises.

During the programme, housing financial assistance grants worth Rs. 500,000.00 each were awarded to 10 Army personnel, while six Army personnel received medical financial assistance grants worth Rs. 100,000.00 each.

Members of the ASVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks attended the programme.

The Third Quarter Meeting of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) for the year 2026 was held on 27 July 2026 at the Multi-Function Hall, Army Headquarters, under the guidance of Mrs. Swendrini Rodrigo, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by the Seva Vanitha Anthem. Thereafter, a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the nationโ€™s fallen War Heroes. A short documentary highlighting the welfare initiatives carried out by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit was also screened.

Following the meeting, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the welfare donation programme as the Chief Guest. During the occasion, housing financial grants of Rs. 1,500,000.00 each were awarded to two Army personnel for the construction of new houses.

Furthermore, under the first phase of the housing assistance programme initiated at previous meetings, initial instalments of Rs. 1,000,000.00 each were presented to a soldier serving in the 4th Regiment, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (4 SLLI), and the spouse of a soldier of the 5th Field Engineer Regiment (5 SLE), who had passed away due to non-operational causes.

Continuing its welfare support, hearing aids valued at Rs. 304,780.00 and Rs. 217,000.00 were donated to two hearing-impaired children of soldiers serving in the 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (17 (V) SLLI).

In addition, a medical device valued at Rs. 29,640.00 was donated to the mother of a Non-Commissioned Officer serving in the 7th Sri Lanka Signal Corps (7 SLSC) for her medical requirements. An OPPO medical support belt worth Rs. 13,400.00 was also presented to a civilian employee attached to the Welfare Food Project due to his medical condition.

Further extending its welfare assistance, the Commander of the Army and the President of the ASVU jointly presented a specially designed paediatric wheelchair valued at Rs. 155,000.00 to the child of an officer serving in the 1st Regiment, Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps (1 SLAOC) who was in need of medical assistance. In addition, musical instruments worth Rs. 100,000.00 were donated to WP/Mathu/Miriswatta Maha Vidyalaya to encourage the schoolโ€™s extracurricular activities.

Altogether, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit provided welfare assistance amounting to Rs. 9,386,000.00 during the programme, further demonstrating its continued dedication towards supporting Army personnel, veterans, and their families.

Following the donation programme, Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, Secretary of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, presented the minutes of the previous meeting, while Major A.S.N. Hathurusinghe, Treasurer of the ASVU, presented the income and expenditure statement. Addressing the gathering, the President of the ASVU provided guidance on the effective implementation of ongoing annual welfare projects and introduced several new welfare initiatives aimed at further strengthening support for War Heroes and their families.

Meanwhile, Chairpersons of the Regimental Seva Vanitha Branches representing all regiments briefed the President on the welfare activities conducted by their respective branches.

The Third Quarter Meeting concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a group photograph and a refreshment session attended by the participants.
