𝐀𝐒𝐕𝐔 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨
The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) conducted a financial assistance programme on 05 October 2026 at the ASVU premises, under the guidance of Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, President, ASVU. The programme aimed to support a retired war hero whose residence was severely damaged by a wild elephant attack.

The occasion was graced by Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP VSV USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs. Rita Franz and five members from Germany.

During the programme, a financial donation was presented by the Commander of the Army to Sergeant K.G.S Nandakumar of the 5th Battalion, Sri Lanka National Guard, a retired war hero residing in Wilachchiya, Anuradhapura, to assist with the repairs to his residence. The donation was made under the sponsorship of Mrs. Rita Franz and the accompanying members.

𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐮 𝐊𝐞𝐤𝐮𝐥𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔
Viru Kekulu Preschools operated under the Army Seva Vanitha Unit celebrated World Children’s Day 2026 from 30 September to 2 October 2026.

The celebrations were held at Viru Kekulu Preschools in Anuradhapura, Diyatalawa, Galle, Ipalogama, Manning Town, Minneriya and Pallekele, providing the children with an opportunity to enjoy a joyful and memorable occasion with their teachers and friends.

The programmes featured a variety of activities, including songs, dances, recreational games and other activities organised for the children. The children also showcased their talents through various performances, creating a cheerful and lively atmosphere throughout the celebrations. Personality-building activities and awareness programmes focusing on the safety and wellbeing of children were also conducted at the Viru Kekulu Preschools. The dedication and support of the preschool teachers and staff contributed to making the celebrations enjoyable and memorable for the children.

Senior officers, senior members in charge of the Viru Kekulu Preschools, officers and members of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit participated in the programmes at the respective locations. Gifts and school equipment were also distributed among the children at some of the celebrations, adding further joy to the occasion.

The celebrations concluded successfully, leaving the children with happy and cherished memories of World Children’s Day 2026.

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) organised a special Children’s Day celebration for the children of Viru Kekulu Preschool, Panagoda, on 2 October 2026, marking World Children’s Day 2026.

The event was graced by Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of ASVU, as the Chief Guest.

Upon arrival, the President of ASVU was warmly welcomed by the children with a traditional sheaf of betel leaves. Subsequently, she posed for a group photograph with the children.

The celebration formally commenced with the singing of the preschool anthem. The children showcased their talents through a series of creative performances, including a magic show, dancing, singing and musical performances, adding colour and joy to the occasion.

Following the performances, the President of ASVU presented gifts to the children in recognition of their talents and enthusiastic participation.

The celebration concluded with the President of ASVU recording commemorative remarks in the Visitors’ Book.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event.

𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐒 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐚 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞

A celebration was held for the special-needs children of the Senehasa Education Resource, Research and Information Centre, Manning Town, on 01 October 2026, as part of the activities marking the 77th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army and World Children’s Day 2026. The programme was organised under the guidance of Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit.

Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP VSV USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by Mrs Vindya Premaratne.
A documentary showcasing the talents and abilities of the children and the activities of the Centre was screened during the programme, providing an opportunity to highlight their creativity and achievements. Recreational games and musical entertainment further added to their enjoyment, creating an atmosphere of fun, participation and togetherness.
Mrs Vindya Premaratne subsequently donated play equipment for the benefit of the children. Gift parcels were also distributed among them, bringing further delight to the young participants. The Commander of the Army and Mrs Vindya Premaratne spent time interacting with the children and their parents, sharing in the spirit of the celebration before joining them for a group photograph.

The programme concluded with lunch for the children and their parents, bringing the celebration to a close on a warm note. The Commander of the Army later made a commemorative entry in the Visitors’ Book.

The occasion was a meaningful celebration centred on the happiness, talents, and wellbeing of the children, while also recognising the importance of providing them with opportunities for learning, recreation, and development.

Senior members of Regimental Seva Vanitha Units, Senior Officers, the Colonel (Coordinating) of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit, Officers and Other Ranks also participated in the occasion.

Mrs. Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) conducted an inspection visit to the Viru Kekulu Preschool in Minneriya on 28 September 2026.

Upon arrival, the President of ASVU was warmly welcomed by the preschool children, presenting her with a traditional sheaf of betel leaves.

During the visit, she observed the teaching and learning activities conducted for the preschool children and reviewed the educational methods and subject-related activities.

She also provided guidance to the preschool staff on the proper maintenance of the children’s exercise books and other educational materials, while emphasising the importance of nurturing and developing their individual talents and abilities.

Then the President of ASVU inspected a collection of drawings and creative work produced by the children and appreciated their efforts and creativity.

Thereafter, she inspected the preschool buildings and other facilities and provided guidance on the improvements, modifications and necessary repairs required to further enhance the preschool environment.

Members of the ASVU, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the inspection visit.

𝐀𝐒𝐕𝐔 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞

The Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) constructed and handed over a new house to a civil employee of the Sri Lanka Artillery at Dampe, Meegoda, on 25 September 2026.

A sum of Rs 1.5 million was allocated by the ASVU for the construction of the house for the civil employee serving under 11 Sri Lanka Artillery.

Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of the ASVU.

During the ceremony, the Commander of the Army symbolically handed over the newly constructed house to the beneficiary. Thereafter, the Commander of the Army, together with the President of the ASVU, presented essential electrical appliances to the beneficiary for use in his new home.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the beneficiary’s spouse, followed by a group photograph.

Members of the ASVU, senior officers, officers and other ranks participated in the event.

Mrs Vindya Premaratne, President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted an inspection visit to the Viru Kekulu Preschools at Ipalogama and Anuradhapura on 21 September 2026.

During the visit, the President of ASVU observed the teaching methods and subject-related activities conducted for the children. She also provided guidance to the officers-in-charge and teachers on the proper maintenance of the children’s exercise books and other educational materials, as well as on methods to further develop their abilities, talents and skills.

She inspected the drawings and creative work prepared by the preschool children and appreciated their efforts. She also inspected the preschool buildings and other facilities and provided necessary instructions regarding improvements, modifications and repairs required to further enhance the learning environment.

Major General G.A.T. Godewatte RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces (Wanni), together with his spouse, senior officers, officers and Other Ranks, participated in the visits.

The newly appointed Senior Lady In-Charge of Viru Kekulu Preschool, Panagoda, Mrs. Randima Perera, made her maiden visit to the preschool premises on 18 September 2026.

During the visit, she inspected the preschool classrooms, day-care centre and surrounding environment, while discussing matters related to the future development and improvement of the preschool.

Furthermore, she observed the educational activities of the preschool children and engaged in friendly and affectionate interactions with them. She also held a cordial discussion with the preschool teachers regarding possible new initiatives, improvements and changes aimed at further enhancing the children’s educational activities and overall learning environment.

Major General H.D.L.S. Perera RWP RSP ndc, Commander, Security Forces (West), together with several officers, participated in the visit.

A special beach cleaning programme organised by the Sri Lanka Army under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national project, in line with the ‘Aththama’ initiative and International Coastal Cleanup Day, was successfully conducted at Crow Island (Kaaka Dupatha), Modara, on 19 September 2026, under the leadership of Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Commander of the Army.

The programme was organised by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) in collaboration with Army Headquarters, with the support and participation of EFL Global as part of its annual charity initiative. It aimed to protect the coastal ecosystem, prevent marine pollution, promote responsible waste disposal practices and raise public awareness of environmental conservation.

The Commander of the Army emphasised the importance of protecting the country’s coastal and marine environment and the need for collective responsibility and sustained public participation. Participants then engaged in the beach cleaning programme at designated areas of Crow Island Beach Park.

The programme also featured the presentation of mementos in appreciation of organisations and individuals who supported its successful conduct.

As another welfare initiative of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), six Army personnel engaged in the maintenance and beautification of the walking track at the Defence Headquarters Complex, Akuregoda, were provided with Physical Training Kits on 15 September 2026.

The initiative was implemented under the guidance and instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, and under the supervision of Mrs Vindhya Premaratne, President of the ASVU.

The initiative was undertaken after considering the welfare and requirements of the Warrant Officers and Other Ranks assigned to the upkeep of the walking track, following a request made in view of their duty requirements.
