SLAEB Hosts Global Scientific Experts in Colombo to Solve Regional Water Challenges!
From July 20 to 24, 2026, the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board (SLAEB) is proud to host a major international training course focused on securing one of our most precious resources: groundwater.
Under the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) project RAS7043 ("Evaluating the Efficacy of Artificial Recharge to Groundwater in Water Scarce Regions using Isotope Techniques"), this intensive program trains scientists on how to use environmental isotopes and advanced mass-balance models to accurately measure and manage aquifer recharge.
🌟 Putting Sri Lanka on the Map of Nuclear Science
We are proud to welcome a highly diverse, international cohort of scientists and experts to Sri Lanka for this event, including:
🌏 21 International Delegates representing 11 nations across Asia:
🇧🇩 Bangladesh | 🇨🇳 China | 🇱🇦 Lao PDR | 🇲🇾 Malaysia
🇲🇳 Mongolia | 🇲🇲 Myanmar | 🇳🇵 Nepal | 🇵🇰 Pakistan
🇵🇭 Philippines | 🇹🇭 Thailand | 🇻🇳 Viet Nam
⚛️ 2 IAEA Experts and the IAEA Technical Officer providing world-class training.
🤝 Local Partnership for National Impact
SLAEB is driving this initiative in close collaboration with our key local stakeholder institutes:
🚰 Water Resources Board (WRB)
💧 National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB)
🚜 Translating Science to the Field
This program isn't just about formulas in a classroom. SLAEB is coordinating a Technical Tour to the managed aquifer recharge area in Rajanganaya to demonstrate real-world, evidence-based water solutions in action.
Through international collaborations like this, SLAEB continues to spearhead the peaceful, practical application of nuclear technology to address climate change and water scarcity in Sri Lanka and across the region!
We are deeply honoured to announce that the Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena., Minister of Science and Technology will grace the inauguration as our Chief Guest on 20th July 2026 at 9.00 am on Liberty D Hall, Ramada by Wyndham Colombo.
