Greetings from the KOICA Sri Lanka Office.

As part of the KOICA Global Training Program (CIAT), the Invitation Training Program on Capacity Building on AI-Driven Citizen Engagement for Enhanced Governance in Sri Lanka for Empowering Development Officers in the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka to Achieve SDG 16.6.2. is being held for 14 days, from August 9 to August 22.

Supported by KOICA and implemented by the Korea Soongsil Cyber University Foundation of University-Industry Cooperation, the training officially commenced with an opening and welcoming ceremony held at the KOICA International Cooperation Center (ICC) on August 10.

The first-year training program focuses on understanding the concepts of AI and data governance and SDG Indicator 16.6.2 (the proportion of the population satisfied with their most recent experience of public services), assessing the current situation, and developing an Action Plan (AP) that can be applied in the field.

The training program consists of thematic lectures, group activities, hands-on exercises for developing Action Plans, and visits to key institutions, including Seoul City Hall, the Future Advanced Transportation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Seoul AI Smart City Center. Through these activities, the participants are gaining practical knowledge and strengthening their professional capabilities by directly exploring AI- and data-driven public administration practices in Korea.

KOICA will continue to provide its support and attention to strengthening AI-based governance and data-driven systems in Sri Lanka. 🇰🇷🤝🇱🇰

KOICA 글로벌 연수사업(CIAT)의 일환으로 스리랑카 대통령 비서실 개발 담당관 역량강화를 통한 AI 기반 시민 참여 및 거버넌스 강화 초청 연수가 8월9일부터 8월22일까지 14일간 진행되고 있습니다.

KOICA가 지원하고 숭실사이버대학교 산학협력단이 수행하는 이번 초청 연수는 8월 10일 KOICA 국제협력 연수센터(ICC)에서 입교식과 환영식을 시작으로 본격적인 일정에 돌입했습니다.

이번 1차 연도 연수는 AI·데이터거버넌스 개념과 SDG 16.6.2 지표(가장 최근에 이용한 공공서비스 경험에 만족한 인구의 비율)를 이해하고 현황을 진단해 현장에 적용할 수 있는 액션플랜(AP)을 수립하는데 중점을 두고 있습니다.

해당 연수 과정은 주제별 강의와 그룹 활동, 액션플랜 수립 실습을 비롯해 서울시청, 서울시 교통실 미래첨단교통과, 서울 AI 스마트시티센터 등 주요 기관 방문으로 구성되었으며, 연수생들 한국의 AI·데이터 기반 행정 사례를 직접 살펴보고 관련 지식과 실무역량을 쌓고 있습니다.

On August 14, KOICA, in collaboration with Ratmalana Technical College (RTC), implemented the “PLC/VFD Training Equipment Introduction and Capacity Building Project for the Electrical Lab at Ratmalana Technical College.”

The project was carried out as a small-scale project by KOICA Volunteer Mr. Kangjin Lee, with the aim of improving the learning environment for electrical and power-related education at Ratmalana Technical College and strengthening the practical skills of both students and instructors. Through the project, PLC/VFD training equipment and practice-oriented educational materials were provided, creating an environment where students can more effectively learn electrical and power technologies used in industrial settings.

Through this project, KOICA hopes to contribute to the development of more industry-oriented, hands-on electrical and power education at Ratmalana Technical College, while providing students with opportunities to gain practical skills relevant to the workplace. KOICA will continue to strengthen its cooperation with local educational institutions to support the development of technical and vocational education and enhance institutional capacity in Sri Lanka. 🇰🇷🇱🇰🎓

이번 사업은 KOICA 이강진 봉사단원의 현장사업으로, 라트말라나 기능학교의 전기·전력 분야 교육환경을 개선하고 학생 및 교사의 실무 역량 강화를 지원하기 위해 추진되었습니다. 사업을 통해 PLC/ VFD 교육기자재를 도입하고, 실습 중심의 교육자료를 지원하여 학생들이 산업현장에서 활용되는 전기·전력 기술을 보다 효과적으로 학습할 수 있는 환경을 마련하였습니다.

Greetings from the KOICA Sri Lanka Office.

On July 15, KOICA held a handover ceremony for the “ICT Lab Establishment Project at Matara Technical College” in collaboration with Matara Technical College.

The project was implemented as a small-scale project by KOICA Volunteer Mr. Hyeog Kim, with the aim of improving the ICT learning environment at Matara Technical College and strengthening students’ digital skills. Through the project, KOICA provided 22 computers, two printers, a smart board, network equipment, desks, chairs, and other essential equipment and facilities for the ICT Lab, enabling students to learn ICT in a more modern and conducive environment.

Through this project, KOICA hopes that students at Matara Technical College will develop practical ICT skills and be better prepared for diverse opportunities in the future. KOICA will continue to support technical education and human resource development in Sri Lanka and work closely with local educational institutions to strengthen the capacity of young people.💙🖥💡

지난 7월 15일, KOICA는 기능학교 마타라(Matara Technical College)와 함께 「기능학교 마타라 ICT Lab 구축 사업」 기증식을 개최하였습니다.

이번 사업은 김혁 봉사단원의 현장사업으로, 기능학교 마타라의 ICT 교육환경을 개선하고 학생들의 디지털 역량 강화를 지원하기 위해 추진되었습니다. 사업을 통해 ICT Lab에 컴퓨터 22대, 프린터 2대, 스마트보드 및 네트워크 장비, 책상·의자 등 교육에 필요한 기자재와 시설을 지원하여 학생들이 보다 쾌적하고 현대적인 환경에서 ICT 교육을 받을 수 있도록 하였습니다.

Last July, KOICA Sri Lanka Office visited the eco-friendly agriculture project site in Mullaitivu, Northern Province, which has been implemented in partnership with The Lamp since 2024.

The project supports smallholder farmers in climate-vulnerable areas of Mullaitivu to reduce their reliance on chemical fertilizers, adopt eco-friendly farming practices that restore soil health, and build a stable source of income.

During the visit, we met with participating farmers, toured the demonstration plots, and reviewed the progress of the project with The Lamp field team ahead of its completion. Listening directly to farmers about their achievements and challenges is an important part of ensuring that our support leads to meaningful and tangible changes on the ground.

We sincerely thank The Lamp team and the farmers of Mullaitivu for their warm welcome.

KOICA will continue to provide support and remain committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and more stable livelihoods for farmers in Sri Lanka. 🇰🇷🌱🇱🇰

Greetings from the KOICA Sri Lanka Office!

From March 10th to 12th, 2026, our team from the volunteer division conducted a productive monitoring visit to the College of Technology (COT) in Jaffna. ✨

Since KOICA first established the technical training complex in 2010, these facilities have been a cornerstone for vocational training in the Northern Province, empowering thousands of youths with skills in Automobile, Machinery, and ICT. During this visit, we focused on evaluating the long-term impact of our previous interventions and discussing how to bridge the gap toward modern industry standards.

Beyond infrastructure, we had insightful discussions with Director Mr. K. Kuhanandan and his dedicated staff about the need for renovating learning spaces and the potential for KOICA Volunteer dispatch in high-demand fields.

KOICA remains committed to fostering a high-quality, modern learning environment that equips Sri Lankan youth with the tools they need for a brighter future. We thank the COT Jaffna team for their warm welcome and look forward to our continued collaboration!
