As part of the institution’s protection strategy and safety measures, a Fire and Safety Awareness Program has been organized at the Head Office and all Regional Offices. In this regard, the program was successfully conducted at the Matara Regional Office of the Office on Missing Persons.

Standing Together with ONUR and the families of missing persons in Kilinochchi

At the District Secretariat in Kilinochchi, officials from ONUR, OMP, and OR came together with selected families of missing persons to listen, reflect, and respond. The discussions centred on the real and pressing socio-economic hardships these families face — and the urgent support they need. Their strength in the face of uncertainty continues to remind us why compassion, justice, and sustained assistance must remain at the heart of everything we do.

Reaching Families

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) continues to stand by families still searching for answers about their loved ones. As part of its accelerated preliminary inquiry process, OMP has been meeting directly with complainants and family members to gather further information and documentation on reported cases.
As part of this effort, inquiry sessions were held on 24th and 25th April 2026 at the Kilinochchi Regional office, the Mullaitivu District Secretariat and the Puthukkudiyiruppu Divisional Secretariat covering both Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts.
167 families came forward during these sessions — sharing their stories, concerns, and information about their missing loved ones. Each interaction is a step forward in the investigative process, and a testament to the courage and resilience of families who continue to seek truth and closure.
These ongoing inquiries remain central to OMP's mission — ensuring that every complaint is carefully examined, and every voice is heard.

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) continues to stand by families still searching for answers about their loved ones. The Office on Missing Persons (OMP) held a collaborative meeting with Civil Society Organizations on 23 April 2026 at the Mannar and Vavuniya District Secretariats. The meeting provided a meaningful space for an open dialogue to listen, share, and reflect on the challenges faced by families of missing persons. Discussions also explored how civil society can play a more active role in supporting affected families and contributing to long-term reconciliation in Sri Lanka. At the OMP, we believe that every voice matters — and that every step forward brings us closer to truth, understanding, and healing; and importantly connecting the people who have been affected in the past.

As part of the institution’s protection strategy and safety measures, a Fire and Safety Awareness Programme has been organized at the Head Office and all Regional Offices. In this regard, the programme was successfully conducted at the Mannar Regional Office of the Office on Missing Persons.

The programme aimed to enhance staff awareness on fire safety, emergency response procedures, and institutional preparedness, thereby ensuring the safety and protection of personnel and institutional assets.

Similar programmes are scheduled to be conducted in Matara, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Colombo, and Jaffna during April 2026.
