Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Capacity to Detect Document Fraud at the Border 🔎

With support from the Australian Government, IOM partnered with the Examiner of Questioned Documents of the Government Analyst’s Department to train 35 immigration officers from the Border Surveillance, Investigations and Ports Divisions. The training complemented the provision of VSC 90 and Regula 4125 document examination equipment.

Through hands-on training, officers strengthened their skills to identify fraudulent documents, altered travel documents, methodically document evidence, and support investigations.

IOM looks forward to continuing to work with the Government of Sri Lanka and partners to strengthen document fraud detection, traveller identity management, border management and support safe, regular and orderly migration. 🤝

This World Humanitarian Day, UN flags in Sri Lanka fly at half-mast in honour of the humanitarians who never made it home.

They walk into some of the most dangerous places when others are trying to leave: delivering food, medicine and shelter for the displaced.

In the last three years, more than 1,000 aid workers have been killed, despite repeated promises to protect them.

Today we remember them as we call on states to uphold international humanitarian law and use every tool they have to protect humanitarians everywhere.
