බස්නාහිර පළාත් කැරම් තරගාවලියේදී විසාඛා විද්‍යාලයට විශිෂ්ට ජයග්‍රහණ!

කොළඹ රාජකීය විද්‍යාලයීය ක්‍රීඩා සංකීර්ණයේදී පසුගිය ජූලි 4 වැනිදා පැවැත්වුණු බස්නාහිර පළාත් කැරම් තරගාවලියේදී (Western Provincial Carrom Tournament) විශිෂ්ට දස්කම් දැක්වීමට කොළඹ විසාඛා විද්‍යාලයේ ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් සමත්ව ඇත.

පළාතේ ප්‍රමුඛ පෙළේ පාසල් රැසක් තරග වැදුණු මෙම තරගාවලියේදී විසාඛා ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් දැක්වූ දක්ෂතා නිසා වයස් කාණ්ඩ දෙකකින්ම ජයග්‍රහණ හිමිකර ගැනීමට ඔවුන්ට හැකි විය. මෙහිදී කැපී පෙනෙන දස්කම් දැක්වූ විසාඛා විද්‍යාලයීය වයස අවුරුදු 20න් පහළ කණ්ඩායම තරගාවලියේ අනුශූරතාව (2nd Place) දිනා ගැනීමට සමත් විය.

ගගුලි රණසිංහ, රුහාරා සේනානායක, ශෙනුරි නෙහාරා, තනුරි ජයලත්, තනුකි ලියනගේ, තාරිණී එදිරිසිංහ සහ විනුදි එදිරිසිංහ යන ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් මෙම කණ්ඩායම නියෝජනය කළහ. මේ අතර, විද්‍යාලයේ වයස අවුරුදු 17න් පහළ කණ්ඩායම ද දක්ෂ තරග රටාවක නිරත වෙමින් තරගාවලියේ තෙවැනි ස්ථානය දිනා ගැනීමට සමත් විය.

චානුමි වීරබද්දන, නෙතුලි දසනායක, නිසුලි ලියනගේ, එනාරා වීරසිංහ, අකිත්ම නානායක්කාර, තිනුලි මෙත්සුවි සහ චනුෂ්කි ජයවර්ධන යන ක්‍රීඩිකාවන් එම කණ්ඩායමට ඇතුළත් වූහ. මෙම ජයග්‍රහණ ද්විත්වය විසාඛා විද්‍යාලයීය ක්‍රීඩා ඉතිහාසයට තවත් රන්වන් පරිච්ඡේදයක් එක් කර තිබේ.

Prathibha Liyanaarachchi Redefining Beauty with Purpose on the Global Stage

Prathibha Liyanaarachchi, crowned Siyatha - Miss World Sri Lanka, stands out as a multifaceted ambassador combining intellect, creative talent, and a deep commitment to social impact.
Her journey to the international spotlight reflects years of dedication across academia, fashion design, and advocacy.

Academic and Professional Foundation

Prathibha’s educational background laid a strong foundation for her achievements. She attended Sri Dharmaloka Vidyalaya, Kelaniya, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, and completed her schooling at Visakha Vidyalaya in Colombo. She pursued higher education at the University of Moratuwa, earning a Bachelor of Design degree with First Class Honors.
Professionally, she serves as a technical designer at MAS Holdings, crafting apparel for major international brands, while also sharing her knowledge as a visiting university lecturer.

Pageant Experience and International Success

Prathibha is no stranger to prestigious pageant stages. Beginning her modeling career in 2018, she went on to represent Sri Lanka internationally at Miss Grand International 2020 and later at the 52nd Miss Intercontinental competition in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. During Miss Intercontinental 2024, her grace and cultural pride earned her the special title of "Miss Tourism Queen".
These experiences refined her poise, stage presence, and understanding of international pageant dynamics.

Beauty with a Purpose - Hoop The Label

Her Miss World flagship project, Hoop The Label, bridges traditional Sri Lankan craftsmanship with modern global fashion. Inspired by the untapped potential of rural artisans, Hoop provides craftswomen across Sri Lanka with skill refinement, machinery, business support, and fair trade market access. Rather than offering temporary relief, her project creates sustainable economic independence while preserving endangered heritage crafts like batik and embroidery.

Potential on the Miss World Stage

Prathibha brings a rare blend of professional design credentials, articulate communication, and a fully operational social impact initiative to the 73rd Miss World Festival.
By incorporating handcrafted designs directly into her official pageant wardrobe, she transforms every appearance into a living showcase of Sri Lankan heritage. With her proven international experience and a "Beauty with a Purpose" project rooted in tangible empowerment, Prathibha Liyanaarachchi is exceptionally well positioned to make a lasting impression and advocate meaningfully on the Miss World stage.

Sri Lanka has achieved another proud milestone in international science education, with all four members of its national team winning Bronze Medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2026) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The prestigious competition brought together more than 360 secondary school students from 96 countries, showcasing the world's brightest young minds in chemistry.

Widely recognised as the world's leading chemistry competition for secondary school students, the International Chemistry Olympiad challenges participants through advanced theoretical examinations and practical laboratory tests that assess analytical thinking, scientific knowledge, and problem-solving skills.

Representing Sri Lanka, Senitha Senaratne of Ananda College, Colombo, Himaru Abeygunarathne of Trinity College, Kandy, Geethilihansa Dharmarathna of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, and Ravindu Ranatunga of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala each secured a Bronze Medal, delivering an outstanding performance for the country.

The Sri Lankan team earned the opportunity to compete after excelling in the Sri Lanka National Chemistry Olympiad (SLNChO), organised by the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. Following a rigorous national selection process, the students underwent intensive training in advanced theoretical and experimental chemistry before representing Sri Lanka internationally.

The delegation was guided by Dr. Upul Ranjan Kumarasinghe of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Dr. Chinthaka Nadun Ratnaweera of the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, whose mentorship played a vital role throughout the competition.

Winning four Bronze Medals at one of the world's most prestigious science competitions highlights the growing potential of Sri Lankan students in international scientific excellence. The achievement not only brings honour to the nation but also inspires future generations to pursue careers in chemistry, research, and innovation.

The Visakha Vidyalaya Batch of ’87 recently gathered for a delightful afternoon of friendship, laughter, and nostalgia at Rose Oud, Colombo 5, for their “Pastels & Petals” reunion.

Surrounded by a beautiful setting, they celebrated the lifelong friendships that began at Visakha Vidyalaya, reminisced about our school days, and created many more treasured memories together.
