"It makes democracy messy." 🇺🇸

​U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum has confirmed federal officials had no legal basis to stop hundreds of masked members of the white supremacist group "Patriot Front" from marching through Washington, D.C., on Independence Day.
​Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union," Burgum stated that while the group’s white supremacist, anti-immigrant ideology is "nothing that I could possibly agree with," their demonstration is protected by the First Amendment. He argued that protesters criticizing the administration on the National Mall enjoy the exact same constitutional protections, saying it's all part of a "messy democracy."
​An estimated 400 masked members traveled via the D.C. Metro, marching near the U.S. Capitol and transit centers in matching uniforms while carrying drums, shields, and Confederate flags. Local police tracked the demonstration but confirmed no arrests were made, as the marchers did nothing illegal under current free speech laws.
