Introduction Programme on the Hello Kitty Plastic Waste Management Initiative – Gampaha District
Under the guidance of the Director, Gampaha District Office of the Central Environmental Authority, an Introduction Programme on the Hello Kitty Plastic Waste Management Initiative was conducted in collaboration with JICA for primary school children of St. Anne’s Primary College, Daluwakotuwa, Negombo, on 27 July 2026.
The programme aimed to promote responsible plastic waste management practices among young children through the Hello Kitty Plastic Waste Management Story Book and Hello Kitty Plastic Waste Management Songs. 🐰📚🎶
As part of the programme, CEA Gampaha officers presented the story “Beat Plastic Waste Problem” through an engaging drama performance.
Through the story of Bubbly Mimi and her sea turtle friend Toby, the children learned how plastic pollution affects wildlife, rivers, oceans and communities. They also discovered simple actions they can take every day to reduce plastic waste, choose alternatives to single-use plastics, properly separate waste and support recycling. 🐢🌊♻️
JICA volunteers also joined the children in singing and dancing to the “Plastic Smart Song,” making environmental learning more interactive, enjoyable and memorable. 🎵💃🕺
Approximately 100 participants, including Students, the Principal, Teachers and Parents of St. Anne’s Primary College, JICA experts, Mrs. Nayana, Sri Lankan Coordinator for the CEA, and Officers of the CEA Gampaha District Office, participated in the programme.
🌱 Let’s inspire the next generation to become Plastic Smart and work together to protect our environment! 🌏💚
