Superb Bird-of-Paradise..The superb bird-of-paradise is famous for performing one of the most astonishing courtship displays in the animal kingdom. Native to the rainforests of New Guinea, the male transforms his appearance by spreading specialized feathers into a glowing black oval highlighted with brilliant electric-blue markings. During the display, he dances, hops, and moves around the female while appearing almost unreal. This remarkable performance is the result of millions of years of evolution driven by female choice. The bird's feathers absorb so much light that they create one of the darkest natural blacks ever recorded, making the bright blue colors appear even more dazzling.
