We are thrilled to announce that our mission to digitize the public sector using GIS technology is growing. What started in the North Western Province has now proudly expanded to the Eastern Province.

Kattankudy Urban Council has stepped up as the very first Local Authority in the East to embrace this digital transformation. Driven by the strong vision and invitation of the Hon. Chairman, Mr. S. H. M. Asfar, we conducted a highly successful 05 day basic GIS training session for their officers.

During this program, the Kattankudy team learned the essentials of GIS technology. What we covered in the training,

🔹 Basic theoretical training on GIS technology
🔹 Practical field tracking of roads and infrastructure facilities like street lights
🔹 Processing, updating, and modifying tracked data using QGIS software

This training was proudly guided by our own GIS UNIT - NWP resource persons,

We recently held a very important workshop! We gathered at the Narammala Pradeshiya Sabha to discuss and solve problems related to mapping and gazetting process of roads owned by local government institutions.

During this program, GIS officers from local councils all across the North Western Province came together to share ideas and find practical solutions.

⚖️ Establishing a Formal Legal Framework for Physical Resources Mapping

We successfully concluded the highly productive second day of our specialized workshop dedicated to drafting a formal legal framework for the Physical Resources Mapping Project in the North Western Province.

To ensure this project meets all administrative requirements, Day 02 focused on presenting the initial draft regulations to our key administrative officers. Gathering their practical insights and ideas is an essential step in finalizing a legal background that is both comprehensive and easy to implement across the province.

During the session, the draft framework prepared on the first day was brought to the attention of all participating officers. Mr. Gamini Gunasekara provided a clear summary of the previously documented matters, emphasizing the critical importance of this regulatory foundation. The highly valuable views and suggestions from the administrative officers were successfully incorporated to strengthen the final draft.

Driven by the vision of the GIS UNIT - NWP, this workshop highlights our commitment to combining smart technology with robust policy frameworks to build a secure, legally sound, and rapidly developing province.

We were highly honored by the presence of Mr. I.M.I. llangakoon, Chief Secretary of the North Western Province, who participated in the day's proceedings and provided excellent leadership.

We just held an impactful and essential awareness program! As Phase II of the Physical Resources Mapping of the North Western Province, a pilot project is set to be implemented in the Galgamuwa and Nawagaththegama Pradeshiya Sabhas to collect highly accurate ground data for a digitalized base map. To create the necessary background for this rollout, we brought our expertise to the Galgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha to help drive their geographic information systems forward.

During this program, we focused on the vital steps prior to the implementation stage of the project, specifically laying the groundwork for accurate data collection. Stepping in to provide our expert technical support and guidance, this teamwork is a huge step toward finalizing highly accurate digital land records and centralized data systems for the region!

Powered by the resources and contributions of the GIS UNIT - NWP, this program shows our dedication to sharing knowledge and using smart technology to build a better, faster developing nation. 📈

Following several successful workshops on road mapping using GIS technology for the officers of local government institutions in the Polonnaruwa district, we brought our expertise to the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of Local Government, North Central Province, Polonnaruwa to help drive their geographic information systems forward.

During this workshop, we focused on the vital steps prior to the gazettement stage of the mapped roads, specifically resolving technical errors and other mapping-related issues. Stepping in to provide our expert assistance and hands-on guidance, this cross-provincial teamwork is a huge step toward finalizing highly accurate road networks and centralized data systems for the region!

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, where officers gained basic theoretical and practical training and prepared KML files with road tracking data, we brought our expertise to the Yatawatta Pradeshiya Sabha to help drive their geographic information systems forward.

During this workshop, we focused on the vital second phase of road mapping preparation. Upon their request, our unit stepped in to provide maximum support and hands on guidance to their officers. This cross provincial teamwork is a huge step toward finalizing highly accurate road networks and centralized data systems for the region!

Led by the technical guidance and resources of Sarath Premachandra, Investigation Officer & GIS Project Coordinator, alongside Mr. Sagara Ekanayake, who brings extensive expertise in GIS technology, this program shows our dedication to sharing knowledge and using smart technology to build a better, faster developing nation. 📈
