The Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) is a Statutory Body which was came in to operation on 1st August in 1987 by virtue of the powers vested in the Sri Lanka Inventors Incentives Act No 53 of 1979. As per the Act, the SLIC shall consist of a Commissioner and two Assistant Commissioners appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers on the recommendation of the Minister of the line ministry.

Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT Campus) on 7th May 2026 at IIT premises to strengthen financial and institutional support for Sri Lankan inventors. The signing ceremony was attended by Mr.Mohan Fernando - Chief Executive Officer , Mr. Sudarshan Welihinda- Director/Chief Operating Officer (COO), IIT and respective officers together with Mr. Nalin Dolawatta – Director/CEO, SLIC, Mr. D. M. L. Rathnayake and officers of the Commission.

This MoU strengthens the innovation ecosystem by providing students and faculty with expert research, patent support, and entrepreneurship training. By bridging the gap between academic brilliance and industry, we are empowering the next generation to move their visionary ideas from the classroom to the global marketplace.
