Aims of the Department
• Instead of subjecting offenders for minor offenses to imprisonment, subjecting them to community based correction through the enforcement of C
ommunity Based Corrections Act no. 46 of 1999.
• Reducing the congestion in prisons and government expenditure in this regard through reducing the imprisonment of minor offenders.
• Channeling the labour of receivers of community based corrections orders, for the development of the country.
• Taking action for the mental and spiritual development of those who have received community based corrections orders.
• Taking necessary action for livelihood development of the receivers of community based corrections orders.
• Improving social acceptance and personality development of receivers of community based corrections orders
• Changing deviant behavior of those who have received community based corrections orders. Calling for pre-punishment reports and issuing community based corrections orders to those who have been sentenced to punishment by the judiciary.
2. Carrying out various development projects through those who have received community based corrections orders.
3. Implementing counseling programmes for receivers of community based corrections orders, establishing a follow up procedure for them and referring them to medical treatment.
4. Implementing various spiritual and religious development programmes for receivers of community based corrections orders.
6. Providing counseling services and organizing welfare societies for the benefit of those who have received community based corrections orders.
