🚨 DEFENDING THE FRONT LINES: SLAF & U.S. MILITARY TEAM UP FOR EXERCISE ATLAS ANGEL II 🚨

When crisis strikes, split-second readiness makes all the difference. Today, the Sri Lanka Air Force No. 49 CBRNE Wing joined forces with the U.S. Military—featuring the Montana National Guard and U.S. Pacific Air Forces (PACAF)—for a high-intensity, full-scale CBRNE emergency response exercise at Kurana Railway Station! 🚂💨

Simulating a complex emergency in a heavy public transport hub, this joint effort showcased elite operational speed, tactical counter-CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive) capabilities, and seamless international interoperability. Together, Sri Lanka and the U.S. continue to sharpen skills, share expertise, and strengthen partnership to keep our public safe. 🤝🛡️

🇱🇰 A special ceremony to present letters of appointment to 160 newly recruited employees of the Civil Service of the Sri Lanka Air Force was held at Air Force Headquarters.

🎖️ The event, held under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, marked a significant milestone and a new beginning in the public service careers of the newly appointed employees.

🇱🇰 ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ සිවිල් සේවයට අලුතින් බඳවාගත් සේවක සේවිකාවන් 160 දෙනෙකු වෙත පත්වීම් ලිපි ප්‍රදානය කිරීමේ විශේෂ උත්සවය ගුවන් හමුදා මූලස්ථානයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

✈️ EXERCISE ATLAS ANGEL – II – 2026 COMMENCES AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE 🇱🇰🇺🇸

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) and the Montana National Guard have commenced Exercise ATLAS ANGEL – II – 2026, a five-day bilateral exercise focused on enhancing capabilities in Search and Rescue (SAR) and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR).

A total of 347 personnel, including 71 foreign participants, representing the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces, Sri Lanka Police and international partners.

The programme features eight expert exchange sessions covering key areas including CBRNE response, Urban Search and Rescue, medical response, disaster management and other specialised emergency-response capabilities.

Exercise ATLAS ANGEL – II – 2026 further strengthens bilateral cooperation, interoperability and collective readiness to respond effectively to complex emergencies and natural disasters.

🔥 SLAF Responds to Fire at Anawilundawa Maiyawa Wewa Reserve 🚁💧

The Sri Lanka Air Force swiftly joined the firefighting efforts at the Anawilundawa Maiyawa Wewa Reserve, Madurankuliya, where a sudden fire broke out on 21 August 2026.

A Bell 412 helicopter conducted aerial firefighting using the Bambi Bucket, drawing water from the Sengal Oya to contain the flames and prevent further spread. SLAF Firefighters and Emergency Response personnel from Palawiya Camp supported the operation on the ground.

Working together with the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Disaster Management Centre, Divisional Secretariat and local residents, the fire was successfully brought under control. 🇱🇰🫡
