Our mangrove restoration work begins at the nursery, right here on the island. 🌱
First, we clean and prepare the nursery. Then we head out around Koggala Lagoon to collect mangrove seeds and propagules from the surrounding ecosystem. Back at the nursery, they’re planted and cared for as they grow into young, stronger plants. 🍃
When they’re ready, they can be replanted in suitable areas of the lagoon, returning to the water where they belong. 🌊
A day spent getting your hands dirty, exploring the lagoon and doing conservation work that actually continues long after the volunteer day ends! 💕🌍
