Field Visit to Kegalle District – Pre-Assessment for Cyclone Dithwa Response

Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation had the valuable opportunity to participate in a field visit to Kegalle District for a pre-assessment in response to Cyclone Dithwa. It was truly an insightful and meaningful experience to witness the ground realities and better understand the immediate needs of affected communities.
We were honored to collaborate with:
• Ms. Dushyanthi Wijesuriya – Local Coordinator, Asia Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC)
• Mr. Nandana Mohottige – Program Manager, Janathakshan Guarantee Limited
• Mr. Dimanka – Coordinator, Janathakshan Guarantee Limited
Learning from such experienced professionals in disaster risk reduction and emergency response was both inspiring and motivating.
Our Visit Included:
• Discussion at the District Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Kegalle District Secretariat
• Meeting with the NGO Coordinator at the Kegalle District Secretariat
• Field visit to Aranayake
• Discussion with the Divisional Secretary and government officials in Aranayake
• Visit to Wasanthagama Safety Center and engagement with government officers
These discussions and field observations enabled us to better analyze the real situation on the ground and identify priority areas for immediate response and future preparedness support.
We remain committed to standing with vulnerable communities and strengthening disaster resilience through collaboration and coordinated action.

📚 සහජීවන පුස්තකාලය මතුගම සදසිරිගම හි ස්ථාපිත කර ඇත

GCERF අරමුදල් සපයන EMPOWER ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ, ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාව (ALSDC), HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා සමඟ සහයෝගයෙන්, සාමකාමී සමාජයක් සඳහා තරුණ ක්‍රියාකාරීත්වය බලගැන්වීම අරමුණු කරගත් මුලපිරීම් මාලාවක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ අතර, එයට කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පුස්තකාල හතරක් ස්ථාපිත කිරීම ද ඇතුළත් විය.

එවැනි එක් මුලපිරීමක් වන්නේ මතුගම ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ දේශීය ප්‍රජාවේ ශක්තිමත් ස්වේච්ඡා සහයෝගයෙන් සංවර්ධනය කරන ලද සදසිරිගම සහජීවන පුස්තකාලයයි.

2025 දෙසැම්බර් 26 වන දින ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාල නිලධාරීන්, ප්‍රජා නායකයින් සහ ALSDC නියෝජිතයින්ගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් පුස්තකාලය නිල වශයෙන් මහජනතාවට භාර දෙන ලද අතර එය ශක්තිමත් ආයතනික සහ ප්‍රජා සහයෝගීතාවය පිළිබිඹු කරයි.

ප්‍රවේශ විය හැකි ඉගෙනුම් අවකාශයන් හරහා සහජීවනය, සාමය සහ ඇතුළත් සංවර්ධනය පෝෂණය කිරීම සඳහා හවුල් කැපවීමක් මෙම මුලපිරීම ඉස්මතු කරයි.

📚 Coexistence Library established in Sadasirigama, Mathugama

Under the GCERF-funded EMPOWER project, Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation (ALSDC), in collaboration with HELVETAS Sri Lanka, implemented a series of initiatives aimed at empowering youth activism for a peaceful society, which included the establishment of four libraries in Kalutara District.

One such initiative is the Sadasirigama Coexistence Library, developed with strong voluntary support from the local community under the supervision of the Mathugama Divisional Secretariat.

The library was officially handed over to the public on 26 December 2025 with the participation of Divisional Secretariat officials, community leaders and ALSDC representatives, reflecting strong institutional and community collaboration.

The initiative highlights a shared commitment to fostering coexistence, peace and inclusive development through accessible learning spaces.

2025 ජනවාරි 19 වන දින, ආසියානු ලංකා අප ආයතනය, නීලන් තිරු චෙල්වම් භාරයේ (NTT) සහයෝගය ඇතිව සහ කෑගල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාලය සහ දෙහිඕවිට සහ බුලත්කොහුපිටිය ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාල සමඟ සහයෝගයෙන්, එම ප්‍රදේශවල මෑතකදී ඇති වූ හදිසි ව්‍යසනයෙන් පීඩාවට පත් පවුල් 215 කට ආපදා සහන කට්ටල බෙදා දෙන ලදී.

සහන කට්ටලවලට ඇඳ ඇතිරිලි, තුවා, දන්තාලේප, දත් බුරුසු, සබන් සහ ඖෂධ වැනි අත්‍යවශ්‍ය ද්‍රව්‍ය ඇතුළත් විය. කෑගල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාලය නියෝජනය කරන රාජ්‍ය නොවන සංවිධාන සම්බන්ධීකාරක, අදාළ ග්‍රාම නිලධාරි, ආසියානු ලංකා අප ආයතනයේ විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ සහ කාර්ය මණ්ඩලය මෙන්ම ආසියානු ලංකා තරුණ සාමූහිකයේ සාමාජිකයින්ගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් බෙදා හැරීම සිදු කරන ලදී.

මෙම මුලපිරීම අර්බුදකාරී කාලවලදී අවදානමට ලක්විය හැකි ප්‍රජාවන්ට සහාය වීම සඳහා අපගේ අඛණ්ඩ කැපවීම පිළිබිඹු කරයි.

On 19th January 2025, Asia Lanka Apa, in collaboration with the Neelan Thiru Chelvam Trust (NTT) and in collaboration with the Kegalle District Secretariat and the Dehiowita and Bulathkohupitiya Divisional Secretariats, distributed disaster relief kits to 215 families affected by the recent flash floods in the areas.

The relief kits included essential items such as bed sheets, towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and medicines. The distribution was carried out with the participation of the NGO Coordinator representing the Kegalle District Secretariat, the relevant Grama Niladhari, the Executive Director and staff of Asia Lanka Apa, as well as members of the Asia Lanka Youth Collective.

This initiative reflects our continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in times of crisis.

දොඩං‍ගොඩ වඩුගම ගම්මානයේ ස්ථාපිත සහජීවන පුස්තකාලය

GCERF අරමුදල් සපයන EMPOWER ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ, ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාව (ALSDC), HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා සමඟ සහයෝගයෙන්, සාමකාමී සමාජයක් සඳහා තරුණ ක්‍රියාකාරීත්වය බලගැන්වීම අරමුණු කරගත් මුලපිරීම් මාලාවක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ අතර, එයට කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පුස්තකාල හතරක් ස්ථාපිත කිරීම ද ඇතුළත් විය.

දොඩංගොඩ ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාශයේ පිහිටි වඩුගම ගම්මානයේ සහජීවන පුස්තකාලය ස්ථාපිත කිරීම එවැනි තවත් එක් මුලපිරීමක් විය. වඩුගම ග්‍රාම නිළධාරී තුමිය සහ සංවර්ධන නිළධාරී තුමිය, එම ප්‍රදේශයේ වැඩිහිටි සමිති සාමාජිකයින් සහ ළමා සමාජ සාමාජිකයින්ගේ ක්‍රියාකාරී ස්වේච්ඡා දායකත්වයෙන් වඩුගම ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ පුස්තකාලය සංවර්ධනය කරන ලදී.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ නිලධාරීන්, ප්‍රදේශයේ විද්වතුන්, HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා ආයතනයේ නිලධාරීන් සහ ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාවයේ (ALSDC) විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ තුමන් සහ නිලධාරීන් සහභාගී වූ අතර, මෙම මුලපිරීම සඳහා ශක්තිමත් ආයතනික සහ ප්‍රජා සහයෝගය ඉස්මතු කරන ලදී.

Coexistence Library established in Wadugama Village, Dodangoda

Under the GCERF-funded EMPOWER project, Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation (ALSDC), in collaboration with HELVETAS Sri Lanka, implemented a series of initiatives aimed at empowering youth activism for a peaceful society, which included the establishment of four libraries in Kalutara District.

The establishment of the Coexistence Library in Wadugama Village, Dodangoda Divisional Secretariat Division, was another such initiative. The library was developed under the supervision of the Wadugama Divisional Secretariat Office with the active voluntary contributions of the Wadugama Grama Niladhari and Development Officer, members of the local elders’ associations and children’s associations.

The Agalawatte Coexistence Library was officially opened to the public on 26th November 2025 with the participation of the Assistant Divisional Secretary of Dodangoda. The event marked an important milestone in promoting social cohesion, access to knowledge and youth-led community development in the area.

The event was attended by officials from the Divisional Secretariat, scholars from the area, officials from HELVETAS Sri Lanka and the Executive Director and officials of the Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation (ALSDC), highlighting the strong institutional and community support for this initiative.

This initiative reflects the collective commitment of stakeholders to foster coexistence, peace and inclusive development through community-based learning spaces.

අගලවත්ත මහකළුපහන ගම්මානයේ ස්ථාපිත සහජීවන පුස්තකාලය

GCERF අරමුදල් සපයන EMPOWER ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ, ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාව (ALSDC), HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා සමඟ සහයෝගයෙන්, සාමකාමී සමාජයක් සඳහා තරුණ ක්‍රියාකාරීත්වය බලගැන්වීම අරමුණු කරගත් මුලපිරීම් මාලාවක් ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ අතර, එයට කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ පුස්තකාල හතරක් ස්ථාපිත කිරීම ද ඇතුළත් විය.

නවෝත්පාදන කුසලතා සහ තරුණ නායකත්වය තුළින් ආර්ථික බලගැන්වීම

GCERF අරමුදල් සපයන EMPOWER ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාවය (ALSDC) විසින් HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා සමඟ සහයෝගයෙන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන ලද ආර්ථික බලගැන්වීමේ ව්‍යාපෘතියේ අවසන් අදියර සාර්ථකව නිම කරන ලදී.

ව්‍යාපෘතියේ සමාප්ති උත්සවය 2025 නොවැම්බර් 26 වන දින කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාල පරිශ්‍රයේදී කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ කුඩා ව්‍යාපාර සංවර්ධන අංශයේ සහාය ඇතිව පැවැත්විණි. ව්‍යාපෘතියෙන් ප්‍රතිලාභ ලැබූ තරුණ ව්‍යවසායකයින් විසින් සංවර්ධනය කරන ලද නිෂ්පාදන ප්‍රදර්ශනය කරන ලද අලෙවි ප්‍රදර්ශනයක් මෙම අවස්ථාවට ඇතුළත් විය. ඊට අමතරව, වසරක කාලයක් පුරා ආර්ථික බලගැන්වීමේ වැඩසටහනේ ක්‍රියාකාරීව නියැලී සිටි තරුණ සහභාගිවන්නන්ට සහතික ප්‍රදානය ද සිදු කරන ලදී.

මෙම වැඩසටහන කළුතර දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් (දිසාපති) තුමන්ගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් පවත්වන ලදී. මෙම අවස්ථාවට දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සහ ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලවල නිලධාරීන්, අපනයන සංවර්ධන මණ්ඩලයේ සහ කාර්මික සංවර්ධන මණ්ඩලයේ නියෝජිතයින්, HELVETAS ශ්‍රී ලංකා හි නිලධාරීන් මෙන්ම ආසියා ලංකා සමාජ සංවර්ධන සහයෝගීතාවයේ (ALSDC) නිලධාරීන් සහභාගී විය.

දිස්ත්‍රික්කය තුළ තිරසාර ආර්ථික සංවර්ධනයක් ඇති කිරීම සහ තරුණ ව්‍යවසායකයින් සවිබල ගැන්වීම සඳහා නවෝත්පාදන කුසලතා සහ තරුණ නායකත්වයේ වැදගත්කම මෙම මුලපිරීම මගින් ඉස්මතු කරන ලදී.

Economic Empowerment through Innovative Skills and Youth Leadership

The final phase of the Economic Empowerment Project implemented by Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation (ALSDC) in collaboration with HELVETAS Sri Lanka under the GCERF-funded EMPOWER Project was successfully completed.

The closing ceremony of the project was held on 26th November 2025 at the Kalutara District Secretariat premises with the support of the Small Business Development Division of the Kalutara District Secretariat. The event included a sales exhibition showcasing the products developed by the young entrepreneurs who benefited from the project. In addition, certificates were also presented to the young participants who had been actively engaged in the Economic Empowerment Program for a period of one year.

The program was conducted under the patronage of the Kalutara District Secretary (Government Agent). The event was attended by officials from the District Secretariat and Divisional Secretariats, representatives from the Export Development Board and the Industrial Development Board, officials from HELVETAS Sri Lanka as well as officials from the Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation (ALSDC).

The initiative highlighted the importance of innovation skills and youth leadership in creating sustainable economic development and empowering young entrepreneurs in the district.
