Ceylon Junglefowl (Gallus lafayettii) is the bird of Sri Lanka. ​

The Sri Lankan Jungle fowl was first described in 1831 by Lesson and is a member of the family Gallus, the same family as the domestic chicken. The ancestor to all domestic chickens is the Red Jungle fowl.​

Wondered what the climate is like at Bundala National Park?​

The Park is in the low country dry zone climate area which results in tropical monsoonal climate. The average temperature is around 27C, the annual rainfall varies between 900 MM to 1300 MM. Dry season falls between May and September. ​

The Sri Lankan Babbler walks when looking for food. The Sri Lanka bush warbler is an elusive bird that confines itself mostly to dense undergrowth in forested areas.​

Bundala National park is the first wetland in Sri Lanka to be declared as a Ramsar site. This international treaty is directed at conserving wetlands which are indispensable for human activity. ​

The convention is committed to working towards the wise use of wetlands, adding more wetlands to the designated list and seeking international cooperation to preserve wetland systems.​

The Revive Bundala initiative is committed to replanting 125,000 trees at the Bundala National Park. In January 2021, 25,000 different species of plants have been successfully replanted with over 40,000 trees being planted to date.

In addition, protective clothing and equipment have been distributed among park employees and communities who assisted with this project.
