SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM HON. MAYOR JOHN-CHARUK SAAH SIAFA

On the Occasion of United Nations Day โ€“ October 24, 2025

As we commemorate United Nations Day 2025, we honor the United Nations as a symbol of hope, peace, and shared humanity. This yearโ€™s celebration holds special meaning for Liberia as our nation proudly assumes its seat as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, reaffirming the worldโ€™s confidence in Liberiaโ€™s democratic progress, commitment to peace, and leadership in global affairs.

The United Nations has been a steadfast partner in maintaining international peace and security and in supporting Liberiaโ€™s post-war recovery. Through the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), the UN helped restore peace, rebuild institutions, and strengthen national unity โ€” a legacy that continues to inspire our path toward sustainable development and good governance.

Guided by the UN Agenda for Peace โ€” which emphasizes preventive diplomacy, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peace enforcement, peacebuilding, disarmament, and development โ€” Liberia stands as a living example of these principles in action. Our nationโ€™s transformation from conflict to stability reflects the success of global cooperation and the resilience of our people.

In Monrovia, the partnership between the United Nations Resident Coordinatorโ€™s Office and the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) is turning these global ideals into local progress. Together, we are advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action), through our joint effort to clean and green the City of Monrovia. This initiative not only improves public health and environmental sustainability but also strengthens the foundations of peace, dignity, and civic pride.

As Mayor, I reaffirm Monroviaโ€™s commitment to working closely with the United Nations family in Liberia to promote environmental stewardship, community resilience, and inclusive urban growth.

Together, we are building the Monrovia we want and the Liberia the world respects.
Happy United Nations Day!
Long live the partnership between Liberia and the United Nations.
Long live the City of Monrovia.

Hon. John-Charuk Saah Siafa
Mayor of the City of Monrovia
Republic of Liberia
