Nowadays, most Liberian tree crops’ farmers are shifting from rubber farming to growing oil palm – a popularly grown tree crop which is Liberia’s staple fat.
Those oil palm farmers are mostly smallholders and are seen in several parts of Liberia.
Since 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) distributed a total of 35,000 oil palm seedlings to nearly 200 oil palm farmers in Bomi, B**g, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Lofa, Margibi and Nimba Counties.
Each of the farmers is being empowered and is now planting on a five-acre land. A total of 1,000 acres have been planted across the country with the MOA’s donated oil palm seedlings.
