The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), under the leadership of Hon. Richard Fatorma Ngafuan, has marked a historic milestone with the launch of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) and the National Population Policy, alongside other key statistical reports.
Speaking at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Monrovia, Director General Ngafuan emphasized that these documents represent more than policy—they affirm Liberia’s commitment to measuring reality honestly, managing resources wisely, and planning deliberately for the future.
Key Achievements Highlighted:
• Agriculture Census Report – A comprehensive database for agriculture and food security analysis.
• Quarterly GDP Estimates – Produced for the first time in Liberia’s history.
• Consumer Price Index – Compiled monthly to track inflation trends.
• Surveys Conducted (2024–2025) – Agriculture Survey, which included the Women Empowerment & Nutrition Module,
Informal Border Trade Survey,
and Data Users Satisfaction Survey.
• Capacity Building – 24 LISGIS staff members pursued master’s degrees abroad in diverse fields.
Director General, Ngafuan credited strong collaboration with partners, including UNFPA, which supported the formulation of the National Population Policy, and consultants engaged for the NSDS. He described the Population Policy as Liberia’s second post-war national policy, designed to address migration, fertility, and mortality trends where policy markers can find ways to intervene.
He further disclosed that LISGIS Data has been used for the formulation of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development , most especially, the monitoring and evaluation framework of the ARREST AGENDA.
Event Highlights:
• Senator Dabah M. Varpilah, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Population and Development, officially released the National Population Policy.
• Hon. Dehpue Y. Zuo, Deputy Minister for Economic Management, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, launched the NSDS.
