At the Presidential Prayer Breakfast held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. called on Liberians to combine faith with responsibility in building a better nation.
The event, organized by the Evangelical Seminary of West Africa (ESWA), brought together clergy members, government officials, private sector representatives, and international partners for what the President described as “a moment of national reflection.”
President Boakai emphasized that while governments and institutions work to develop the country, Liberia must continue to seek God’s guidance and direction.
“While governments make plans, institutions carry responsibilities, and citizens work daily to build a better country, we must never lose sight of the divine hand that guides nations,” the President stated.
He highlighted several areas of progress under his administration, including improved roads, stronger institutions, growing economic opportunities, and increasing international confidence in Liberia. He also pointed to Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as a sign of renewed global trust in the country’s democratic leadership.
The President urged religious communities across Liberia to continue praying for wisdom, peace, integrity, and national unity. However, he stressed that prayer alone is not enough without discipline and action.
“A praying nation must also be a responsible nation. A faithful people must also be disciplined people,” President Boakai said. “We cannot seek divine favor while tolerating division, corruption, dishonesty, and indifference.”
He further reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, noting that national transformation requires the involvement of churches, mosques, families, the private sector, and every Liberian citizen.
According to the President, the Prayer Breakfast serves as an example of unity, where people from different backgrounds can come together for the common good of Liberia.
In closing, President Boakai encouraged Liberians to renew their commitment to God and country, expressing hope that with faith, unity, discipline, and hard work, Liberia’s best days are still ahead.
Meanwhile, visiting clergyman Reverend Ramesh Richards encouraged President Boakai and national leaders to make Jesus Christ the foundation of both governance and personal life.
“God does not give you a mansion to stand on a rock,” Reverend Richards stated. “But if you embrace Him as the Rock of your life, you can build a house that will stand through every storm and remain strong into eternity.”
