Liberia Mourns Two Dedicated Catholic Priests, Remove their remains today
Liberia’s Catholic community is in mourning following the passing of two devoted servants of God, Very Reverend Father Alphonsus B. Mombo and Very Reverend Father Roland Gbandala Biah.
Father Mombo, 57, served as Rector of St. Charles Lwanga Pre-Major Seminary, where he dedicated his life to mentoring and shaping future priests. Father Biah, 53, was the Parish Priest of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Gardnersville, known for his commitment to faith, service, and community leadership.
Their passing is a great loss not only to the Catholic Church but to the nation as a whole. May their souls rest in perfect peace, and may God grant strength to their families, parishioners, and the entire Catholic community during this difficult time.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has received Letters of Credence from four newly accredited Ambassadors representing Kenya, Italy, Denmark, and Bangladesh to Liberia. During separate ceremonies held at the Executive Mansion on May 25, 2026, President Boakai warmly welcomed the diplomats on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia, while reaffirming Liberia’s longstanding bilateral ties with their respective countries.

The President expressed appreciation to the Ambassadors for accepting accreditation to Liberia and assured them of his government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in key sectors including trade and investment, agriculture, mining, health, tourism, and international relations. He emphasized that these partnerships present significant opportunities for mutual growth, peace, and shared prosperity.

In his remarks to the Kenyan Ambassador, President Boakai renewed Liberia’s request for the establishment of a Kenyan Embassy in Monrovia, noting that such a move would improve consular services and deepen relations between the two African nations. He further stressed Liberia’s commitment to collaborating with Kenya and the international community in promoting peace and security across Africa.

The newly accredited Ambassadors, speaking on behalf of their respective governments, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to work closely with Liberia to strengthen bilateral relations. President Boakai concluded by reaffirming his administration’s readiness to support continued diplomatic cooperation and conveyed goodwill messages to the leaders and citizens of Kenya, Italy, Denmark, and Bangladesh.

“A Praying Nation Must Be a Responsible Nation,” President Boakai Declares at Presidential Prayer Breakfast
May 25, 2026
At the Presidential Prayer Breakfast held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, Liberia, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. called on Liberians to combine faith with responsibility in building a better nation.
The event, organized by the Evangelical Seminary of West Africa (ESWA), brought together clergy members, government officials, private sector representatives, and international partners for what the President described as “a moment of national reflection.”
President Boakai emphasized that while governments and institutions work to develop the country, Liberia must continue to seek God’s guidance and direction.
“While governments make plans, institutions carry responsibilities, and citizens work daily to build a better country, we must never lose sight of the divine hand that guides nations,” the President stated.
He highlighted several areas of progress under his administration, including improved roads, stronger institutions, growing economic opportunities, and increasing international confidence in Liberia. He also pointed to Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council as a sign of renewed global trust in the country’s democratic leadership.
The President urged religious communities across Liberia to continue praying for wisdom, peace, integrity, and national unity. However, he stressed that prayer alone is not enough without discipline and action.
“A praying nation must also be a responsible nation. A faithful people must also be disciplined people,” President Boakai said. “We cannot seek divine favor while tolerating division, corruption, dishonesty, and indifference.”
He further reaffirmed his government’s commitment to implementing the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, noting that national transformation requires the involvement of churches, mosques, families, the private sector, and every Liberian citizen.
According to the President, the Prayer Breakfast serves as an example of unity, where people from different backgrounds can come together for the common good of Liberia.
In closing, President Boakai encouraged Liberians to renew their commitment to God and country, expressing hope that with faith, unity, discipline, and hard work, Liberia’s best days are still ahead.
Meanwhile, visiting clergyman Reverend Ramesh Richards encouraged President Boakai and national leaders to make Jesus Christ the foundation of both governance and personal life.
“God does not give you a mansion to stand on a rock,” Reverend Richards stated. “But if you embrace Him as the Rock of your life, you can build a house that will stand through every storm and remain strong into eternity.”
The Evangelical Seminary of West Africa (ESWA), established in 2019 on the ELWA campus in Paynesville, Liberia, is an interdenominational seminary dedicated to training pastors and church leaders across Liberia and the West African region. Operating under ELWA Ministries/Sudan Interior Mission (SIM), ESWA focuses on biblical teaching, servant leadership, and practical ministry to strengthen churches and communities.
