Function of the EPA

- To ensure the preservation and promotion of important historic, cultural, and spiritual values of natural resources, heritage, and in consultation with indigenous authority, enhances indigenous methods for effective natural resource management.

- To collect, analyze and prepare basic scientific data and other information on pollution, degradation and environmental quality,

resource use, as well as other environmental protection and conservation matters. The EPA also undertakes research work, prepares and disseminates reports on the status of Liberia's environment . This is done by law every two years.

- To put into place environmental criteria, guidelines, specifications and standards for he production processes and the sustainable natural resources for the health and welfare of the present generation and prevent environmental degradation for the welfare of future generations.

- To serve as a clearinghouse for all activities relating to regional and international environment-related conventions, treaties and agreements. EPA also serves as a national liaison with the secretariat for all such regional and international instrument.

- To advise the state and participate in the process of negotiating, ratifying, or acceding to relevant regional and international environmental agreements.

- To propose plans and strategies to the policy council, and makes sure that issues about the good of the environment are inculcated into national development plan. Departments at EPA
