Technology is reshaping the future of fisheries management and The National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority Republic of Liberia is investing in the people who make it happen.

Staff of the Fisheries Monitoring Center have successfully completed an intensive drone piloting training under the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project. The practical sessions provided participants with the skills needed to safely operate drones and apply aerial technology to fisheries monitoring, surveillance, and enforcement.

Every new skill acquired strengthens our collective ability to protect Liberia's fisheries resources and deliver more effective services.

Under the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project (LSMFP), The National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority Republic of Liberia is currently undertaking sea trials of solar-powered fiberglass Kru and Fanti canoes as part of broader efforts to modernize Liberia’s artisanal fisheries sector.

These trials are intended to evaluate vessel performance, safety standards, and operational efficiency ahead of their introduction through an incubation program.

In a parallel initiative, trials are also being conducted for the fiberglass Sea King, locally referred to as the “Sea Ko,” which is being managed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. Collectively, these interventions mark an advancement toward improving safety at sea, enhancing productivity, reducing operating costs, and strengthening sustainable fisheries development across Liberia’s coastal communities

Staff Recognition Spotlight – Celebrating Excellence at NaFAA

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) proudly recognizes Lovette Seidi Sie as Employee of the Month for April 2026.

This recognition reflects her outstanding contributions across several critical roles. As NaFAA’s Lead for the 2026 Fisheries Kpongama, Madam Sie demonstrated exceptional leadership by coordinating with the Golden Touch Corporation, chairing and guiding the Kpongama Steering Committee meetings, and facilitating the seamless travel and participation of international guests from 21 countries.

Beyond this, she successfully led the planning of NaFAA’s Fisheries Complex Groundbreaking and, in 2025, played a pivotal role in organizing Liberia’s World Fisheries Day celebration—both landmark achievements for the sector.

The National Fisheries & Aquaculture Authority Republic of Liberia through the Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project-LSMFP invites qualified consultants to submit Requests for Expressions of Interest (REOI) for a range of strategic assignments aimed at strengthening Liberia’s fisheries sector.

Opportunities include: consulting services for the finalization of detailed design and construction supervision of the Mesurado Industrial and artisanal landing facilities and associated fisheries infrastructure; provision of legal expertise to support the review and drafting of amendments to Liberia’s fisheries legislation in alignment with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); and the recruitment of an Individual Consultant to conduct the Fisheries Performance Indicator (FPI) Survey.

This assignment represents a step toward strengthening Liberia’s fisheries governance framework, ensuring compliance with international standards, and advancing sustainable management of marine resources.
