𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲

The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Health, Good Governance, Education, and Judiciary to review “An Act to Establish the Council on Social Work Education and Practice, 2025.”

The decision followed the submission of the draft bill by Montserrado County Electoral District #3 Representative Hon. Sumo Mulbah, who explained that the proposed legislation seeks to create a professional regulatory body to oversee the education, ethical standards, and professional practice of social workers across Liberia.

Hon. Mulbah emphasized that the establishment of the Council is both timely and essential, given Liberia’s ongoing social challenges such as child protection, gender-based violence, community reintegration, mental health, and poverty alleviation. He noted that the absence of a unified and accredited regulatory framework has limited the effectiveness and credibility of social work professionals in the country.

According to the draft, the Council—when established—will:

Standardize social work education and practice across institutions and service agencies;

Ensure professional accountability and ethical compliance in social service delivery;

Promote capacity-building and continuous professional development for practitioners; and

Enhance the overall quality of social welfare and human service programs nationwide.

Hon. Mulbah stated that the Act represents a major step toward strengthening Liberia’s social protection system, promoting professionalism, and safeguarding the dignity and rights of the nation’s most vulnerable citizens.

The proposed legislation is co-sponsored by Representatives Hon. Julie F. Wiah and Hon. Bernard Blue Benson, Jr.

Yesterday September 25th, 2025 the Social Work Students Association- SOWSA AMEU at its first general meeting for academic year 2025/2026 bringing together both major and minor students.

It was indeed an amazing meeting for students.

On yesterday, H.E Edwin A. Snorton Jr. President of the Association chaired the meeting in consultation with the leadership advisor Mr. Michael Jimmy.

Top on the agenda was the election of the association new leadership and the 5th Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

As part of the department tradition, the association organizes this event to certificate teachers, past association leaders, celebrate their achievements, and induct the new leaders into office.

This year's dinner is scheduled for November 1st, 2025 at the Clar Marie Weah Event Hall on 12th Street, Sinkor; tickets are now on sale for $20 at the department office.

It is a great opportunity to network and share fun as we celebrate the growth of the Social Work Profession in Liberia.

The Social Work Students Association-AMEU Stands United Against Drug Abuse! 🟡

In solidarity with The National Association of Social Workers of Liberia (NASOWL), we proudly Join all Liberian on today, the 7th of August 2025 National Campaign Against Drug Abuse in Liberia. 🇱🇷

🛑 Drug abuse is destroying lives, families, and communities—but together, we can be the change!

💡 How Communities Can Join the Fight:
1. Promote Awareness & Education
• Host forums, school outreach programs, and peer education sessions.
• Share facts and personal stories to dispel myths and reduce stigma.
2. Support Youth Engagement
• Create safe spaces for recreation, mentoring, and leadership.
• Encourage youth-led initiatives to raise their voices on the issue.
3. Strengthen Family & Community Bonds
• Build trust and open communication within homes and neighborhoods.
• Encourage family counseling and positive parenting practices.
4. Report and Refer
• Know where to report suspicious drug activities.
• Refer struggling individuals to local rehab centers or support groups.
5. Empower Local Leaders & Faith-Based Groups
• Equip traditional leaders, pastors, and imams to spread anti-drug messages.
• Use community events and sermons to reach broader audiences.

Unification Day Message From the office of the President, SOWSA- AME University:

Fellow Liberians, and esteemed leaders, colleagues, and to all members of SOWSA: I bring you greetings.

I write ✍🏾 to you today not just as a Leader , but as a proud son of this great nation — Liberia. Our country’s history is marked by trials, but it is also defined by our resilience, our hope, and our unyielding spirit to rise united from the ashes of division and conflict.

Today, as we celebrate the 61st National Unification Day, we stand at a pivotal moment in our nation’s journey—a moment that calls for bold leadership, unwavering unity, and a fierce commitment to safety for every Liberian.

Governing for unity and safety is not just a political mandate; it is a sacred duty to heal the wounds of our past and build a future where every citizen feels valued, protected, and empowered. Liberia’s strength lies not in division but in the unbreakable bonds of our shared identity, culture, and dreams.

True governance must be rooted in justice, transparency, and inclusion — where every voice, regardless of tribe, religion, or background, is heard and valued. It is only when we govern with fairness and integrity that we can heal the wounds of the past and secure a safe future for all.

True unity demands that we rise above tribalism, fear, and mistrust. It requires leaders who listen with empathy, govern with justice, and act with courage.

Let this National Unification Day be a clarion call to action: that we govern not for the few, but for all; that we build not walls, but bridges; and that we secure not just peace, but a lasting legacy of unity for generations to come.

Let us be bold in our commitment to peace. Let us reject division and violence, and instead embrace dialogue, understanding, and collaboration. As young Liberians, as future leaders and change-makers, we must hold unto our unity.

Together, we can govern for unity. Together, we can govern for safety. Together, we will build the Liberia we deserve; moreover, this is our moment to transform hope into action.

The end of the annual social work day at AME university was climax with a sports event held at the BTC Barrack on U.N. Drive & Lynch Street.

We extend thanks and appreciation to all the BSW degree granting institutions that were invited for the sports day event and couldn’t attend due to busy schedules or other circumstances, special thanks 🙏🏾 and appreciation goes out to the following;

Annual Social Work Day at AME University

The Annual Social Work Day at AME University is a significant event dedicated to promoting the values and impact of social work in the community. Celebrated with enthusiasm and commitment, this event brings together students, faculty, and professionals in the field to engage in discussions, activities, and outreach programs aimed at fostering social change and community development.

Each year, the event is organized by the Department of Social Work in collaboration with various stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations. The day serves as a platform for students to showcase their academic knowledge, practical skills, and passion for social justice.
Our indoor program went well and the department learned alot.
