Our principal business is to build houses for sale, provide rental accommodation and serviced sites for residential and commercial purposes. Lesotho Housing and Land Development Corporation (LHLDC) was established under the LHLDC Order No 12, 1988 as amended, by the Minister of the Interior, Chieftainship Affairs and Rural Development which is now the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship
(MLGC). The Corporation has two (2) shareholders, the Government of Lesotho (Majority shareholder) and the Lesotho National Development Corporation (Minority shareholder). As a Corporate body it has the power to sue and be sued. It performs all duties imposed upon it and exercises all powers conferred upon it by or under the LHLDC Order. Lesotho Housing and Land Development Corporation (LHLDC) is the product of a merger between the then Lower Income Housing Company (LEHCO-OP) and Lesotho Housing Corporation (LHC). While the two (2) defunct institutions were purposely established to serve specific income groups, being low and middle income, the new Corporation established per Order No. 12 of 1988 as amended was mandated to assist all Basotho access shelter. Lesotho Housing and Land Development Corporation (LHLDC) is a self-financing parastatal mandated to provide housing to meet the housing needs of the people in Lesotho. The principal business of the Corporation is to build houses for sale, provide rental accommodation and serviced sites for residential and commercial purposes. To fulfill the requirements of the mandate, LHLDC performs the following functions:
Increases the supply of housing to help meet the housing requirements of Lesotho . Implements on a self-financing basis a broad array of schemes including self-help housing, turn-key housing,and serviced sites for owner development. Partners with others to develop land and deliver housing. Engages in the development and management of rentals where it is deemed to be in the economic interest of the Corporation to manage the property. Develops long term capital programs that will assure the Corporation's continued financial viability and ability to remain a vital participant in Lesotho`s housing sector. The Corporation is also mandated, in consultation with other government Ministries or Departments, to devise uniform procedures for effective collaboration in the housing sector throughout Lesotho.
