Lithuania’s A+ credit rating is holding steady! 💪

Nearly a year after upgrading Lithuania from A to A+, has reaffirmed its assessment with a stable outlook.

The decision comes down to the following reasons:

✅ Strong and resilient economic growth, with Lithuania continuing to close the income gap with the eurozone.

✅ Sound public finances, with government debt at just 39.5% of GDP at the end of 2025 - among the lowest levels in the eurozone.

✅ An increasingly diversified economy, strengthening Lithuania’s ability to withstand external shocks.

✅ A strong institutional framework, underpinned by EU, eurozone and NATO membership.

And it is not an isolated assessment. Other international credit rating agencies, including Fitch and Moody’s, have also confirmed or strengthened Lithuania’s high standing in recent months.

Different agencies. A consistent signal: Lithuania’s economy continues to grow on strong and stable foundations. 📈

Aspora joins a growing number of global fintechs choosing Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius, as their European base 🤝

The move gives the fast-growing company, which serves the Indian diaspora, its first regulated foothold in the EU. According to the company’s CEO, Nedas Sipovičius, the decision came down to three key reasons:

1️⃣ Full EU market access
2️⃣ A deep engineering and compliance talent pool
3️⃣ A highly supportive regulatory environment

“We are not opening a back-office here. We are building a serious European business,” he notes.

Aspora plans to grow its Vilnius team to up to 100 people over the next three years, actively recruiting across risk management, IT, product development and finance.

Take a look at Lithuania’s key investment and ecosystem updates from July! 👇

Across much of the world, July tends to be a slower month. But not in Lithuania.

Vilnius-born data infrastructure company Oxylabs reached unicorn status, becoming the second Lithuanian company to do so in just six months 🦄

We also saw major expansion plans for Klaipėda Port greenlit and new strategic global partnerships taking shape.

More on these and other key updates bellow!

There's a new Centaur in town! 🐎

Three years after opening an office in Vilnius and securing an EMI licence from the Bank of Lithuania, Payhawk has surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR).

The milestone, commonly known as Centaur status, has only been reached by a small number of private software companies worldwide. Around 250, to be exact, with Payhawk now being one of them.

We like to think the company's decision to expand to Lithuania in 2023 had something to do with it! 😉

🎩 off to the entire Payhawk team.

What makes investors choose one country over another? 🤔

Is it tax incentives? Skilled talent? Reliable infrastructure? Increasingly, the answer does not come down to a single advantage, but to a combination of many.

Companies are looking for locations where all the fundamentals, from access to talent to predictable regulation, work together. And Lithuania is emerging as one of them.

As highlighted in our latest blog post, the country offers:

✅ High English proficiency, with 85% of young professionals fluent in the language.

✅ Targeted investment incentives, including the Investment Highway framework, which offers a 0% corporate income tax rate for up to 20 years.

✅ Strong innovation capabilities, ranking 8th globally for mobile app development and 33rd in the Global Innovation Index.

Lithuania is strengthening ties with Southeast Asia 🤝

Home to around 700 million people, Southeast Asia is one of the world's fastest-growing economic regions and an increasingly important partner for Europe.

Last week, Lithuania joined Sweden, Poland and Romania in signing the region's key diplomatic pact - the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The treaty establishes a legal and political framework for closer cooperation between Lithuania and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, , as well as its individual member states, across a range of strategic areas, including trade, energy and cybersecurity.

"The defense startup betting on peace"
Is how Forbes described in a recent article.

And indeed, this Lithuanian startup is developing a drone-mounted radar system designed to detect buried landmines and unexploded ordnance, helping make contaminated land safe again for returning communities. 🫂

The company was founded just three years ago, but it has already made a name for itself. In 2024, Broswarm won the 15th NATO Innovation Challenge, which recognises some of the most creative, efficient and cost-effective solutions to pressing defence challenges.

Who took second place? Another Lithuanian defence startup, showing that this is an ecosystem story, not an isolated success.

What do AI and national resilience have in common? 🛡️
Quite a bit.

So argues Invest Lithuania Strategist Diana Girdenytė in her latest opinion piece.

Around the world, governments are beginning to use AI not just as a tool to improve efficiency, but also as a way to protect the systems their societies depend on: critical infrastructure, digital identity, financial networks, public services, and so forth.

Lithuania, which sits on NATO's eastern flank while operating a highly digital public sector and a tech ecosystem that has grown nearly 6x over the past five years, offers a relevant case study of how this shift is taking shape in practice.

What do NASA, Harvard and CERN have in common?
They all rely on Lithuanian laser technology 🔬

And they are not alone. Around 95% of Lithuania’s laser production is exported to more than 80 countries.

That level of reach did not happen overnight. In fact, it has been 60 years in the making, with Lithuania’s first laser built in 1966, just six years after the technology was first demonstrated in the US.

Today, the industry brings together more than 60 companies and over 2,000 specialists, and is growing by more than 16% annually.

Over the decades, one of its strongest competitive advantages has been the close-knit ecosystem behind it, where universities, research centres and businesses collaborate, compete and keep pushing the field forward.

Are you familiar with the 5% club? 🤝

The term started making the rounds after last year's NATO Summit in The Hague, where member states agreed to increase defence spending from 2% to 5% of GDP annually by 2035.

A new benchmark, which, according to NATO's latest estimates, Lithuania has already crossed. Nine years ahead of the deadline, no less!

At 5.33%, Lithuania currently allocates the highest share of GDP to defence among its allies. But real security is not built by the size of a budget alone. What matters is how that money is spent.

In Lithuania's case, it is being thoughtfully channelled into growing industrial capacity, cross-country collaboration, high-tech innovation and modernising our forces. We want to ensure our people, our guests, and the companies choosing to build here feel safe. Not through words, but through real, tangible action.
