Five Luxembourgish youth players joined a two-week training camp in Shanghai, where they trained with Olympic champion Yan Sen and hit the tables with local enthusiasts at the 2026 Shanghai Table Tennis Carnival.

Table tennis has become an important people-to-people link between Luxembourg and China since the establishment of the China Table Tennis College Europe in Luxembourg, creating more opportunities for players from both sides to train, compete, and connect each year.

China strongly deplores Japan's negative moves related to the Yasukuni war shrine, and has lodged serious protests against Japan, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Aug 15.

During WWII, Japan launched the war of aggression and committed horrendous crimes, the spokesperson said, noting that as spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism, the Yasukuni Shrine is in fact a shrine for war criminals, as it honors 14 convicted Class-A war criminals responsible for the war of aggression.

"This is an affront to historical justice, a challenge to the foundational norms of civilization, and a provocation against the postwar international order. Such behaviors have been firmly rejected by the overwhelming majority of the international community," the spokesperson said.

Eighty-one years have passed since Japan's unconditional surrender in WWII. Still, Japanese right‑wing forces continue to distort wartime history by visiting the Yasukuni Shrine with Class‑A war criminals, whitewashing invasion atrocities and ramping‑up military expansion.

Remembering history is not about fostering hatred. Denying aggressive past endangers stability in the Asia‑Pacific region. Japan must sincerely atone for its war crimes. The world should stay alert to historical revisionism.

China urges the US to stop playing up tensions and instigating confrontation in the South China Sea, stop citing the illegal and invalid "award", and stop using maritime issues as a pretext to smear China, Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry, said on Aug 14.

Guo made the remarks in response to a press statement issued by the US State Department spokesperson on Aug 8 local time, which said the United States rejects China's attempts to set up the national nature reserve at Huangyan Dao (Huangyan Island) and deny Filipino fishermen access to their "traditional fishing ground" as reflected in the so-called "2016 South China Sea arbitration award".

Guo pointed out that Huangyan Dao has always been China's territory, and it is within China's sovereign rights to establish and administer the Huangyan Dao national nature reserve.

Meet the newest workers on Guangzhou's parcel-sorting lines: humanoid robots. Eight robots are being tested to pick up small parcels and load them onto sorting conveyors, handling 800 parcels an hour. The goal is to double that to 1,600 by Q2 2027 — nearly matching human workers while keeping operations running around the clock.

A new shipping route between the Chinese port of Ningbo-Zhoushan and Felixstowe in the United Kingdom has launched, with claims it could cut the 40-day journey in half.
Passing through the Arctic, the route has been dubbed the "Ice Silk Road", a nod to the ancient trading route that famously connected China and Europe. https://brnw.ch/21x4Upb
