Discover an inspiring exhibition in Riga at Gallery Māksla XO ✨
The show features works by Finland-based artist Luciana Mariano alongside Latvian artist Andris Kaliņins.
Luciana Mariano — a Brazilian painter of Italian and Portuguese descent — brings a unique voice to contemporary art. Now living in Finland, she represents the third generation of naïve painters in her family. At once childlike in its lightness and directness, her art is also sharp, observant, and warmly accessible.
"We always have what we need to survive and we lose what no longer serves us. We adapt, we keep secrets, we play. The truth is in front of us and we keep chasing hope, butterflies, dreams and bubbles. We are captives to our stories, conditionings, time, and yet, absolutely free to dare,” – Luciana Mariano, 2026.
Together with Andris Kaliņins’ works, this exhibition creates a compelling dialogue worth experiencing.

Yesterday, we had the honor and pleasure of welcoming an incredible group of guests — experts from the KiVa anti-bullying school conference.
The event was opened by Ambassador Anne Saloranta and the conference organizer, Līga Bērziņa, Head of the Latvian Autism Association.
It was inspiring to bring together KiVa program specialists from Finland, Latvia, and different other countries, sharing knowledge, experience, and a common goal of creating safer and more supportive school environments.

It was a great pleasure last week to welcome Finland’s Minister of Finance Riikka Purra and her delegation of experts from the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs, and financial institutions. They came to Riga to participate in the Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and paid a visit to the Embassy.

While at the Embassy, Minister Purra and her delegation received an overview of Latvia’s current economic and political situation and met the Embassy staff.

And, of course, no visit would be complete without a traditional group “family photo” to mark the occasion.

We thank Minister Purra and her delegation for their visit and trust that they had a successful and productive stay in Riga.

Today, Finland celebrates the Flag Day of the Finnish Defence Forces, observed on the birthday of Marshal Mannerheim, one of the most distinguished figures in the nation’s history.

Opening the reception marking Finland’s Defence Forces Flag Day, Ambassador Anne Saloranta reflected on the symbolic significance of the Finnish flag as a representation of the nation’s history, values, unity, and resilience. She also highlighted the strong sense of responsibility and commitment within Finnish society to safeguard the country’s independence and security when needed.

The occasion was especially meaningful as it marked the final reception co-hosted by our Defence Attaché, Captain Heikki Lamminen, whose dedicated service has made a significant contribution to strengthening defence cooperation and mutual understanding. We were also pleased to be introduced to his successor, Colonel Vesa Tuunainen, and look forward to continued close cooperation in the years ahead.

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us at the Drone Summit 2026 networking event at the Residence of Finland in Riga.

It was a pleasure to bring together representatives of the Finnish and Latvian defence and security sectors for an evening of insightful discussions, new connections, and future cooperation opportunities.

Special thanks to our partners, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) Gatis Ozoliņš and the Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia (FSDI Latvia), for their excellent cooperation and support in making this event a success. We are also grateful to Elina Egle for sharing valuable insights into Latvia’s defence industry landscape.

We laughed until we cried. 😂
From the eternal battle between “morning people” and “evening people” to hilarious stories about different healthcare systems — nothing was safe from Ismo’s Finnish humor.

Hearing a Finn explain life in English with that legendary Finnish accent somehow makes everything even funnier. 🇫🇮

And yes — we even got backstage and snapped a photo together. Not a bad week at all.

On Tuesday 19 May, Dr. Jussi Halla-aho, Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Eduskunta undertook an official visit to Latvia, accompanied by two Members of the Finnish Parliament; Ms. Sari Tanus and Mr. Atte Harjanne. The visit featured high-level discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and promoting shared priorities. The delegation also took the opportunity to visit the Embassy.

The International Department of Eduskunta was represented by Director Laura Kamras and Advisor Sampo Saarinen.
