Hätätapauksessa voit ottaa yhteyttä ulkoministeriön päivystykseen, +358 9 160 55555, [email protected]. Ulkoministeriön päivystys palvelee ympäri vuorokauden vuoden jokaisena päivänä.

Today marks the World Humanitarian Day 🌍🤝📦

Humanitarian needs are rising, while delivering aid is becoming more dangerous. Humanitarian workers provide life-saving assistance to people affected by conflicts, disasters and other crises around the world.

On this day, we recognize their work, stand in solidarity with people affected by crises, and reaffirm the importance of protecting civilians and humanitarian workers everywhere.

How can we raise the world's awareness about Finland? This was a particularly important question when Finland was at war. During the Winter War, a press room was opened for foreign correspondents in the posh Hotel Kämp in Helsinki. After the war, foreign journalists were actively invited to get to know Finland. In 1945, the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper published a bulletin about Swedish journalists who came all the way from Gothenburg for five o'clock tea.

'Yesterday, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' Newspaper Office invited visiting Swedish reporters for five o'clock tea at the Government Banquet Hall. The programme for the evening included a song performed by the Viipurin Lauluveikot Male Choir.'

In 1958, a young diplomat freshly returned from the Finnish embassy in Washington DC, Max Jakobson, took over the Ministry's Newspaper Office. He led a committee that defined new principles for communications. The committee discussed Finland's image and the marketing of Finland's achievements. The country image pioneers who worked for Jakobson lamented that Finland was largely unknown on the global stage. In a 1960 article he wrote in Politiikka magazine, Jakobson sought to bolster faith in promoting Finland's story. 'Of course, it is not nice to run into people in the world who know nothing about Finland. On the other hand, they may not know a thing about any other countries either.'

Finland's active role in global politics increased the need for public diplomacy. The Foreign Ministry's International Press Center grew in prominence in 1975 when the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe signed in Helsinki emphasised the obligation of nations to support the work of journalists across borders.

Aalto Works, a collection of 13 sites associated with Alvar Aalto, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. 🇫🇮💙

The inscription recognises the international significance of Aalto’s contribution to modern architecture. Aalto's work is known for its human-centred approach and close connection to the surrounding environment.

أُدرجت "أعمال آلتو" (Aalto Works)، وهي مجموعة تضم 13 موقعًا مرتبطة بالمعماري ألفار آلتو، على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث العالمي. 🇫🇮💙

ويُجسّد هذا الإدراج الاعتراف بالأهمية العالمية لإسهامات آلتو في العمارة الحديثة. وتشتهر أعماله بنهجها الذي يضع الإنسان في صميم التصميم، وبعلاقتها الوثيقة مع البيئة المحيطة.

Saaristolaisleipä (archipelago bread) is a Finnish staple that is definitely worth tasting! 😋 You can find it at every celebration from Midsummer to Christmas. A bit time-consuming to make, but thankfully you can pick up a loaf at every possible bake sale.

Enjoy with cured salmon or a shrimp mayo for that ultimately Finnish taste experience! 👌

Recipe:
1 l buttermilk
50 g fresh yeast
300 ml dark syrup
300 ml malt
300 ml oat bran
300 ml rye flour
1 tbsp salt
about 800 ml wheat flour

For brushing:
50 ml dark syrup
50 ml boiling water
