Monaco will soon be celebrating Saint Nicholas’ Day!

After hymns and a mass in the Monegasque language at the Cathedral, children wearing the colours of Monaco parade through the streets of the Rock to the beat of the drum.

If you should come across them during your stay in the Principality, next Tuesday, look out for the mini-Saint Nick leading the cortege...

Protecting the oceans, from generation to generation
Since the reign of Prince Albert I, marine preservation has been a core issue for the Principality.
Barely a year after his great-great-grandson Prince Albert II ascended the throne, the was founded. One of its priorities is the protection of our seas and oceans.
This year, Prince Albert II has renewed and strengthened his commitment by publishing his first book, entitled “Man and the Ocean, Preserving the Oceans to Protect Humanity”.

The Monegasque coat of arms
Have you ever noticed the monks that appear on the coat of arms, and do you know the history behind them?
It all dates back to 8 January 1297, when François Grimaldi tricked his way into the fortress by disguising himself as a Franciscan friar.
Since that feat, the Grimaldi arms have been flanked by two monks brandishing swords.
Standing on the Place du Palais, the statue of François Grimaldi - known as ‘’Malizia‘’ (the “Clever”) - tells of this incredible chapter in the founding history of Monaco.

19th November - The Principality’s National Day!

Do you know why we celebrate every 19th November?

Monaco’s National Day was established by Prince Charles III in 1857, on the date of the Sovereign Prince’s patron saint's day. So it has changed over time.

On the death of Prince Rainier III, his son Albert II decided to keep the date of 19th November, as a tribute to his father.
