As another EMS week comes to an end, I would like to take a moment as the Director of Clay County EMS, to personally thank every one of my co-workers. Our small service takes on the big job of providing the Citizens of Clay County with the best medical service possible. We have done some growing in the last couple of years and had the growing pains along with this endeavor. Even through all the stresses and long work weeks, I have never been let down by my guys. If one slacks another is there to help pick up the slack and makes my job as Director less stressful. To each and everyone of yall im proud to call you coworkers and friend. You are the reasons I consider Clay County's EMS one of the best places to work. I could not do it without you guys. And Kyle this was not Chat GPT written.

Clay County EMS would like to congratulate AEMT Jennifer Cowan on her acceptance into the Vol State Paramedic Program beginning this fall semester.

Jennifer has been a dedicated member of Clay County EMS since 2004 and currently serves as an Advanced EMT. Throughout her career, she has shown outstanding dedication, leadership, and commitment to the citizens of Clay County. Despite not yet being a paramedic, Jennifer spends a large part of her time serving as the lead provider on the ambulance, demonstrating the experience, confidence, and professionalism that make her an invaluable part of our service.

Her acceptance into the paramedic program is a well-earned accomplishment, and we are excited to see her continue advancing her career in EMS. We know she will represent Clay County EMS well throughout the program and beyond.

Please join us in congratulating Jennifer and wishing her the very best as she begins this next chapter.

Today, we were honored to once again declare May 12th as “Jimmy Philpot Day” here at Clay County EMS.

This marks the third year we have recognized this special day in honor of Jimmy, who passed away in 2021. Jimmy was more than just a coworker — he was family to our service and our community. His kindness, dedication, and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

To continue honoring his legacy, radio number 512 has since been officially retired in his memory — a small reminder of the huge impact he made on this service.

Though he may no longer be with us, Jimmy’s memory continues to ride with us every day. ❤️🚑

Gone, but never forgotten.

Clay County EMS is proud to announce its participation in a state-funded workforce apprenticeship initiative through Workforce Connections, providing educational funding assistance for five of its employees to advance their careers in Emergency Medical Services.
Through this program, Haley C***s is currently pursuing Paramedic certification. Hailey Mull and Everett Benjamin are enrolled in Advanced EMT programs. Emma Coil and Hailey Mullins have successfully completed their Advanced EMT certification through this initiative.
The Workforce Connections apprenticeship initiative is part of a broader regional effort to strengthen the healthcare workforce by supporting “earn while you learn” training opportunities. These programs combine hands-on experience with structured classroom education, allowing participants to advance their certifications while continuing to serve their communities.
Funding for these apprenticeships is made possible through state and regional workforce development efforts designed to address critical staffing shortages in healthcare and emergency services. Workforce Connections supports apprenticeship programs across the Upper Cumberland region, helping employers reduce training costs while developing skilled, long-term employees.
“This program is a tremendous opportunity not only for our employees but for the citizens we serve,” said Andy Hall, EMS Director. “By investing in the education and advancement of our staff, we are strengthening the future of EMS in Clay County and ensuring our community continues to receive high-quality emergency care.”
Apprenticeship programs such as this are supported through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and are recognized as a proven workforce strategy, offering structured training, career advancement, and nationally recognized credentials while helping meet the growing demand for skilled EMS providers.
Clay County EMS remains committed to professional development, recruitment, and retention of highly trained personnel. Partnerships with Workforce Connections and Apprenticeship Tennessee continue to play a key role in building a stronger, more resilient EMS workforce for the region.
A commemorative photo was taken to recognize this partnership and achievement. Those participating in the photo include Stacey Baxter with Workforce Connection, Dale Reagan Clay County Mayor, Doug Young Director of Clay County Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Hall EMS Director, and employees Hailey Mullins, Emma Coil, and Everett Benjamin.
