PRESS RELEASE: PFM-II Project Team Strengthens Procurement and Contract Management Capacity Through CIU-Led Training

The PFM II Project recently participated in an in-depth procurement training conducted by the Central Implementation Unit (CIU) Procurement team, aimed at strengthening the capacity of the PIU involved in procurement and contract management.
The training provided participants with a comprehensive overview of various procurement methods and the appropriate circumstances for applying each method. Participants explored the different types of procurement, including goods, works, consulting services, and non-consulting services, with emphasis on understanding the requirements and processes associated with each procurement type.
A key component of the training focused on consultancy services, providing participants with a deeper understanding of the procurement process for consulting assignments. The sessions covered important areas including the preparation of Terms of Reference, selection methods, evaluation of technical and financial proposals, and the engagement and management of consultants.
The training also placed significant emphasis on contract management, recognizing the importance of effective management throughout the entire contract lifecycle. Participants discussed contract administration, monitoring deliverables and performance, managing timelines and milestones, reviewing payments, handling contract variations and amendments, maintaining proper documentation, and ensuring that contractual obligations are fulfilled.
The sessions highlighted the importance of following appropriate procurement procedures, maintaining transparency and accountability, achieving value for money, and ensuring proper documentation throughout the procurement and contract management process. Strengthening these practices supports more effective management of public resources and contributes to improved implementation of government programs and projects.
The Project extends its sincere appreciation to the CIU Procurement Specialist and Procurement Officers for their proactive support and for generously sharing their technical knowledge and practical expertise. Their guidance equipped participants with the skills needed to carry out procurement activities effectively and manage contracts in accordance with established requirements.
