RMI EPA extends its deepest gratitude to all who made this historic water infrastructure delivery possible.

We wish to formally acknowledge and thank His Excellency Ambassador Wilson, DCM Kallan Phillips , Captain Steve, LC Boddy, Chiief Sec., PM Boniswa, and our dedicated ACWA Team for an extraordinary effort and commitment to the people of the Marshall Islands.
What an achievement this has been:
🚤 80 individual trips from vessel to shore
🛳️ 800 miles covered across our waters
🏗️ 21 tons of cement bags and 1.5 tons of timber delivered
📅 14 days of continuous operations
Water catchments and supplies have now reached the remote communities of Wotho, Ujae, Lae — and Enewetak is next for installation!
This is what partnership looks like in action. The resilience of our outer island communities deserves nothing less than this level of dedication and service.
To the Australian Embassy, Marshall Islands , Marshall Islands — this collaboration reflects the very best of our bilateral relationship. Your investment in the health and wellbeing of our most remote communities will be felt for generations to come.
Komol tata 🙏

It is with deep sorrow that we bid farewell to a friend of EPA, James Bing — Director and Co-Incident Commander of our National Oil Spill Response Taskforce

If you know James, you know he commands the room. In the time we spent with James- he was unwavering dedicated to the protection of our lagoon, our marine environment, and our people- he was our bridge to closer working relationship with Malgov.

As an experienced fisherman- he knew why this was important and so he was engaged and instrumental in the drafting of the National Oil Spill Response Plan.

Incident Commander -his leadership, his integrity, and his commitment to this work have left a lasting mark on all of us at RMIEPA.

Rest in peace, James- Director and Incident Commander. Your work will not be forgotten. You will never be forgotten.

When you have partners that genuinely care, it shows — not just in words, but in action. 💙
The Australian Embassy in the Marshall Islands has been instrumental in helping RMI EPA deliver water catchments and supplies to some of our most isolated communities, including Enewetak Atoll, Wotho, where access is one of our greatest challenges.
And when RMI needed support during COVID, Australia stepped up in a big way, contributing $2 million dollars in mandatory contributions while RMI recovered (and eventually paid those). This project UNDP EPA ACWA Project became the RMI Government's largest water project to date.
That kind of partnership means everything to a small island nation. We are deeply grateful to Australia for standing with us — not just in policy, but on the ground, where it counts most.

In the meantime, we had an opportunity to visited Jabwod Elementary School 6th, 7th and 8th grade. We value and practice the purpose behind the ' No Littering" presentation including the Question and Answer.

Topic: "No Littering"
3Rs which are
- Reduce
- Reuse
- Recycle
because they limit waste, save natural resources, and lower pollution, the "3Rs" of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle are essential for environmental conservation. The most crucial stage is to reduce consumption, which is followed by recycling materials to create new goods and reusing items to prolong their lifespan. When combined, these efforts help prevent climate change, preserve energy, and safeguard ecosystems.

The trip was a success. The team reached the people and shared all relevant information as well as gathered information needed and concerns presented.

We acknowledged Jaluit Atoll Iroj im Alap, leadership and community for welcoming the team and for participating in our work. Special thanks to JHS Principal Nimata Nakamura for his great hospitality.

Lastly, Kommol tata RMI EPA management and to our pollution officers Kiona Jr. Lalimo and Louie Salinas, conservation officer David Aiseia, and awareness officer Joseph Kalles for making this trip possible to be able to inform communities on the importance of GEF and effective conservations today and the future.

RMI EPA & U.S. Coast Guard: LORAN Station Remediation
The partnership between the RMI EPA and the U.S. Coast Guard around historic LORAN station cleanup is a recognized bilateral priority. RMI leaders have expressed interest in future joint efforts, including environmental initiatives like cleaning up PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) from former U.S. Coast Guard LORAN stations, alongside continuing maritime law enforcement training to bolster RMI's capabilities in maritime security and environmental protection. This was highlighted at a high-level Joint Committee Meeting in Honolulu in April 2024.

The U.S. Coast Guard operated LORAN (Long Range Navigation) stations across the Marshall Islands including at Majuro and Ebeye/Kwajalein for decades as part of its Pacific navigation network. These stations are now decommissioned but have left behind a legacy of potential PCB contamination from old electrical equipment, transformers, and infrastructure, requiring environmental survey and remediation.

The Broader RMI EPA–USCG Partnership
The U.S. Coast Guard and RMI EPA have collaborated on a range of environmental protection efforts, including developing RMI's first National Contingency Plan for oil spill response, with the USCG Pacific Engagement Center playing a key role in enhancing coordination and capability.

The LORAN station survey assessments in Majuro and Ebeye are part of this broader framework — the U.S. acknowledging its environmental obligations under the Compact of Free Association, and RMI EPA working to identify contaminated sites for proper remediation to protect community health and the environment in these densely populated island communities.
