Swiss National Day Celebration in Skopje! 🇨🇭🤝🇲🇰

With our partners here, we had the opportunity to get together and reflect on what is important for both our countries - to be innovative and persistent in finding solutions to the challenges that arise.

Strong institutions ensure quality services for citizens!

Ambassador Sommer met with Minister of Justice Mr Jeton Shasivari to exchange on North Macedonia's legislative agenda and reform process in elections and justice. Ambassador Sommer emphasised Switzerland's partnership with North Macedonia in the European integration and reform agenda.

The call for applications for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2027-2028 is online!

Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships for talented early career researchers from abroad who have already completed their Master's degree.

Candidates from North Macedonia may apply for research and PhD studies at Swiss cantonal universities, federal institutes of technology, universities of applied sciences and the four research institutes. Detailed information is available on this link:

Today is World Humanitarian Day. It’s an opportunity to recognize those who put their own lives on hold to save the lives of others.

To do so, we’d like to introduce you to four people who were part of the Swiss relief effort following June’s earthquakes in Venezuela. Some travelled from Switzerland with the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit, whilst others came from Colombia or Peru with the Rapid Intervention and Support Group (Grupo de Intervención y Apoyo Rápido, GIAR). They all shared the same mission: to help those affected.

The GIAR, of which Irina and Rosa Maria are members, is a localized rapid response mechanism for the Swiss humanitarian response and emergency relief in Latin America and the Caribbean. Its deployment of regional experts in times of disaster is a way for humanitarian aid to be where it is needed, as quickly and as effectively as possible.

In a new interview with Economy and Business, Costa Vayenas—author of Swiss Franc from 1798 to 2055—explores the historical, institutional and economic foundations behind Switzerland’s monetary stability.

Following his recent lecture at the National Bank of the Republic of North Macedonia, Vayenas reflects on a central message: currencies are ultimately built on trust. That trust is shaped by strong institutions, responsible public debt management, checks and balances, political power-sharing and policies designed with a long-term horizon.

The interview offers an insightful perspective on values closely associated with the Swiss model: institutional credibility, fiscal discipline, shared responsibility, moderation and resilience.

It also addresses the future of fiat money, the risks associated with rising public debt, financial digitalization and the importance of diversification in uncertain times.

Chargée d’Affaires a.i. Michal Harari joined the Municipality of Krushevo and local businesses to celebrate the town’s progress towards becoming a more sustainable, year-round tourism destination. For over a decade, Switzerland has supported Krushevo through the Increasing Market Employability - IME programme, working with local partners to strengthen sustainable tourism, support businesses and protect the environment.

Key milesstones are the upgraded tourism info center, the establishment of the locally led Krushevo Green organsation, and digital solutions like the KE platform. An improved waste management plan in under works together with Пакомак.
