🤝 Concluding the 5th Sarajevo Migration Dialogue, representatives from across the Western Balkans, together with partners and experts, reaffirmed the importance of a shared approach to migration management.
welcomes the leadership of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina in convening this important platform, with the support of Switzerland. The Dialogue builds on a structured regional process, linking technical-level exchanges with high-level engagement.
As part of the programme, MARRI RC Director Angela Boranieva participated in Session II: “From Declaration to Practice: Implementation Architecture and the Role of MARRI”, alongside Ivica Bošnjak, Deputy Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The session was moderated by Dr Ankica Tomic, Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to MARRI RC.
The discussion highlighted several key points:
🔹 The importance of political realism, focusing on strengthening existing regional mechanisms rather than creating new structures,
🔹 The recognition of MARRI as a continuity and coordination platform, ensuring trust, institutional memory and sustained regional cooperation,
🔹 The importance of predictable resources and strengthened capacities to ensure effective and long-term implementation,
🔹 The value of MARRI as a bridge between regional efforts and European frameworks, particularly in the context of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum.
A key milestone of this year’s Dialogue is the Regional Declaration, developed through extensive consultations and technical discussions, with active contributions from MARRI RC. The Declaration reflects a shared commitment to enhanced cooperation, strengthened capacities and continued dialogue, while remaining open to engagement with partners.
As a regional initiative, MARRI remains committed to supporting its Participants in translating policy into practice and fostering sustained cooperation across the region.
