State and Federal Unit Hluttaws, Committees Representing the Hluttaws
Joint Statement (1/2026)
1387 Burmese Calendar, 12th day of the first lunar month of Tapotwe
29th January 2026
1. First of all, we would like to express our gratitude to the people who did not vote by their own decision in the illegal and fraudulent election of the terrorist military regime, Myanmar people abroad who did not vote in advance, the political parties, ethnic armed organizations, domestic and foreign civil society organizations, unions, international diplomats, and the local and foreign media who protested against the illegal and fraudulent election.
2. In addition, we also express our sympathy and understanding to the people who were forced to vote against their will due to various forms of pressure, intimidation, and coercion under the tyranny of the military regime in the illegal and fraudulent election.
3. In the 2020 multi-party democratic general election, it has officially recognized by the international community as a free and fair election in which the entire ethnic people voted overwhelmingly in accordance with their true will despite the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the illegal and fraudulent elections that were forcibly held in three parts in late 2025 and early 2026 by the terrorist military regime that seized power and committed treason without any authority did not reflect the true will of the people, and the recognition of international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, and ASEAN, have already announced that they will not recognize the election.
4. We strongly condemn the terrorist military regime and some countries that have influence over them for their own interests, ignoring the will of the Myanmar people and supporting and facilitating the illegal and fraudulent elections for the purpose of exploiting natural resources and geopolitical interests. Since the sovereignty of Myanmar is derived from the people, any agreement or contract signed with the military junta without the will of the people is illegal and we hereby issue a firm warning that no future government will be held responsible for such agreements.
5. The illegal and fraudulent election of the terrorist military junta, which forced the people to vote through various means of intimidation and coercion, was found to have been very low in turnout, but it was found that the election was a success and deceived the international community. In the 2020 general election, 2,751,12855 out of 3,827,1447 eligible voters cast their votes, representing 71.89 percent of the vote. Then, although the terrorist military junta seized power using false and allegations of irregularities in the voter registration, the elected representatives of the people continued to exercise the power delegated by the people and formed the Union Parliament Representative Committee, as well as the State and Division/Federal Unit Parliament Representative Committees, and continue to conduct parliamentary processes to this day.
6. We state that our state and division/federal unit parliaments are functioning legally in accordance with the parliament’s procedures and procedures, and that federal unit governments/administrative bodies have been formed and given responsibilities in Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway, and that they are also working legally with the international community, and that an interim administration system is being implemented in most of the liberated areas, except for a few areas ruled by the illegal military dictatorship, for the social interests of the people in the region.
7. Therefore, we hereby jointly declare that the election conducted by the terrorist military junta in three phases on (28-12-2025), (11-1-2026) and (25-1-2026) has no legitimacy. We further call for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, including State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and President U Win Myint who were overwhelmingly elected as the national leaders by the people in the free and fair 2020 general election and who are being violently arrested and detained by the military junta. This joint statement is issued by the State and Region/Federal Unit Hluttaws and the Hluttaw Representative Committees.
