Pakistan Independence Day Celebrated in Myanmar, Honouring the Legacy of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

The Embassy of Pakistan in Yangon hosted a dignified ceremony to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day and the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was attended by a diverse gathering of members of the Pakistani community and local guests.

In his address, Ambassador Tariq Karim highlighted the historic significance of Pakistan’s Independence, paying tribute to the sacrifices and struggle of the freedom movement under the visionary leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He highlighted the life, character, and enduring vision of Quaid-e-Azam as the founder of Pakistan, a great statesman, and a leader of exceptional integrity whose principles continue to inspire generations.

The Ambassador noted that, despite various challenges and odds, Pakistan has achieved significant milestones during its 79-year journey. He highlighted Pakistan’s potential as a promising destination for trade, investment, business, and tourism, while underscoring the resilience, determination, and spirit of its people.

Ambassador Tariq Karim also highlighted Pakistan’s measured, proportionate, and decisive response during Marka-e-Haq, stating that it reflected the nation’s resolve, moral strength, and the professionalism and valour of its Armed Forces. He underscored Pakistan’s continued contributions towards regional and global peace and stability, which have enhanced the country’s international standing. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the legitimate right to self-determination of the people of IIOJK.

Ambassador Tariq Karim commended the Pakistani diaspora for its valuable contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development and encouraged them to remain guided by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s timeless principles of Unity, Faith, and Discipline while strengthening their bond with Pakistan.

Student leader Wajiha Fatima highlighted the significance of Pakistan’s Independence Day and the enduring legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Children carrying Pakistani flags performed national and patriotic songs, adding to the festive spirit of the occasion.

As part of the Independence Day commemorations, the national flag was hoisted and a cake-cutting ceremony was also held.

A delegation of Searle Pakistan, a leading Pakistani pharmaceutical company, called on Ambassador Tariq Karim at the Embassy of Pakistan in Yangon.

The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, including opportunities to expand trade, strengthen business linkages, and foster collaboration with Myanmar’s pharmaceutical industry. The Ambassador highlighted the considerable potential for growth in this sector and reaffirmed the Embassy’s full support in facilitating business-to-business engagement and partnerships.

Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir Observed in Myanmar

The Embassy of Pakistan in Yangon observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir with a seminar marking seven years since India’s illegal and unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The event was attended by members of the Pakistani community, Kashmiri activists, and representatives of civil society. Speakers, including Kashmiri activist Mr. Riasat Saqib, expressed grave concern over the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK. They called upon the international community to play an active role in the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UNSC Resolutions.

In his remarks, Ambassador Tariq Karim highlighted the various dimensions of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK, particularly since 5 August 2019. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of IIOJK and reiterated the continued moral, political, and diplomatic support of the Government and people of Pakistan for their just and legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.

A documentary screening and photographic exhibition were held on the occasion, highlighting the historical context of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the grave and worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK.

Ambassador Tariq Karim held a Kachehri/Town Hall meeting with members of the Pakistani community in Myanmar. The meeting provided an opportunity for an interactive exchange on a range of issues concerning community welfare, business opportunities, and ways to further strengthen people-to-people linkages between Pakistan and Myanmar. The Ambassador appreciated the community’s valuable contribution to the socio-economic development of both countries and assured continued support and facilitation by the Embassy.

Trade and Economic Conference Held to Promote Bilateral Economic Partnership

The Embassy, in coordination with the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), hosted a virtual conference to promote bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

The forum brought together senior representatives of the business communities from both sides. The Pakistan side included Mr. Tariq Khan Jadoon, Vice President FPCCI; Mr. Usman Shaukat, President of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI); Mr. Khurshid Barlas, Founder Chairman of the Pakistan Association of Exhibition Industry; the Senior Vice President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI); representatives from the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) and the pharmaceutical, textile, grain, and other sectors. The Myanmar side was represented by Dr. Win Si Thu, Vice President UMFCCI, along with representatives of relevant business associations, including the Myanmar Chamber of Commerce for Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices, Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association, and Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA).

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Tariq Karim highlighted the potential for enhancing trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He underscored the importance of strengthening institutional cooperation between trade bodies and promoting sustained business-to-business engagement, while reaffirming the Embassy’s continued support.

Representatives of FPCCI, UMFCCI, and participating chambers discussed opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation across diverse sectors. Recalling the FPCCI–UMFCCI Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both sides agreed to strengthen engagements, facilitate business exchanges, and promote increased B2B interactions.
