The United States welcomes the International Committee of the Red Cross visit to Aung San Suu Kyi. We hope this visit marks the beginning of regular humanitarian access to Aung San Suu Kyi and serves as a pathway to greater access to all political prisoners. We continue to call for her immediate and unconditional release and urge authorities to guarantee her access to medical care and visits. We call for the release of all those unjustly detained and the military to engage in dialogue with all groups to end the conflict in Burma.

🎵 Music connects us across borders! Last week, CDA a.i. Doug Sonnek welcomed internationally acclaimed American pianist Kimball Gallagher and the Myanmar Music Festival fora special evening celebrating the power of music to bring people together.

Since 2014, the Myanmar Music Festival has more than 21,000 people, across Myanmar through performances, music education, and opportunities for young musicians to learn, collaborate, and create. The United States is proud to support cultural exchange programs that foster creativity, strengthen people-to-people ties, and deepen the friendship between the American and Burmese people.

Yesterday, at the Jefferson Center Mandalay, acclaimed American pianist and Myanmar Music Festival co-founder Kimball Gallagher led “Discover Your Inner Songwriter,” where participants explored listening, storytelling, and collaborative music-making to create an original song.

The day continued with Music Night at JCM, featuring original and classic Burmese songs in a celebration of cultural exchange, artistic expression, and American excellence in music.
