In coordination with , will revoke U.S. passports of those who owe significant child support debt. Anyone owing child-support debt should arrange payment now with the relevant state child support enforcement agency to prevent passport revocation. If outside the U.S. when their passport is revoked, individuals with significant debt will be eligible ONLY for a limited validity passport for direct return to the United States. Know Before You Go! In addition to enrolling in STEP, before every international trip you should:

Check your passport expiration date before you book. Many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond the duration of your trip.

Look up country-specific information for your destination including local laws and what you can and cannot bring at travel.state.gov/destination

Reminder: To use Online Passport Renewal, you must be physically located in a U.S. state or territory at the time you apply. As soon as you submit your online application, your existing passport will be automatically canceled in our systems, making it invalid for travel even if it hasn’t expired. Americans living abroad should re-enroll in STEP each year to continue to receive alerts and be connected with the local U.S. Embassy.
