Ambassador Vanessa Chan handed over 166 law books donated by members of the legal fraternity in Singapore to the Department of Law at Mandalay University in support of legal education in Myanmar today.

Both education and the rule of law are vital to successful national development. We are glad to do what we can to support the young people of Myanmar in achieving their educational goals. We thank the faculty and students of the Department of Law for their warm welcome and look forward to continued cooperation.

Congratulations to the Myanmar Fire Services Department on their accomplishments at the Singapore Global Firefighters and Paramedics Challenge 2025. Singapore Civil Defence Force worked closely with MFSD to respond to the March 2025 earthquake.

On 26 December 2004, a massive earthquake off the coast of Sumatra triggered tsunamis that devastated communities across Asia.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) responded swiftly, launching Operation Flying Eagle (OFE) in the immediate aftermath — its largest-ever Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission.

Amid the devastation in Meulaboh, Indonesia, our Combat Engineers played a vital role in restoring access to affected areas. They opened sea and helicopter landing points, cleared debris, and built roads to enable relief supplies and aid workers to reach stranded communities.

Alongside them, the SAF Medical Corps provided essential care — setting up a mobile operating theatre, supporting local hospitals, and delivering critical medical and surgical aid to those in need.

Together, they exemplified the Army’s spirit of service, resilience, and compassion — standing ready to bring hope and relief beyond our shores. 🇸🇬

The Singapore Government has awarded the AY2026 ASEAN Scholarships to 17 outstanding students from Myanmar. The ASEAN Scholarships gives young people from ASEAN member countries the opportunity to study in Singapore. The aim of the scholarships is not just to provide financial support to the students, but to help them gain cross-cultural skills, leadership, trusting relationships across ASEAN, and exposure to a global perspective. Any Myanmar student can apply; scholars are selected based on academic merit, their personal qualities and their potential to contribute to their home countries’ development. Scholars enter Singapore schools at Secondary 3 and will sit for the GCE O-Level Examination (if applicable) at the end of Secondary 4 and the GCE A-Level (or equivalent) at the end of Pre-University 2. These scholarships form part of Singapore’s longstanding engagement with and support for the people of Myanmar.

Ms Vanessa Chan, Singapore’s Ambassador to Myanmar, hosted an award ceremony and farewell tea reception for the 17 scholars and their families on 28 October 2025 at the Singapore Embassy in Yangon. In her remarks at the ceremony, she encouraged the scholars to do their best in Singapore, forge lasting friendships with Singaporeans and fellow students from other countries, and contribute to the close friendship and cooperation between the people of Singapore and Myanmar.
