We stand with the LGBT+ community in promoting equal rights, dignity, inclusion, and safety for all. Upholding and protecting these values is at the heart of our commitment to universal human rights.

Strengthening Handwoven Textile Value Chains to Create Economic Opportunities in Myanmar

In Myanmar, we are supporting small and medium handwoven textile businesses to become more competitive and resilient by upgrading key market functions—from skills development and post weaving processes to business capabilities and market access.

Through hands on technical training, access to appropriate machinery and shared infrastructure, and structured business support, artisans and enterprises are transitioning from informal, traditional production toward quality driven, market ready, and sustainable business models. Strengthened market linkages are expanding income opportunities and rebuilding confidence in locally made handwoven textiles, while women entrepreneurs and home based weavers gain more stable employment, leadership roles, and clearer pathways for skills recognition—supporting long term growth and positioning of Myanmar’s handwoven textile industry.

Through the Vocational Skills Development Programme (VSDP), financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by Swisscontact, in partnership with Community Partners Myanmar (CPM), Solutions and Turquoise Mountain works closely with textile MSMEs to create opportunities and lasting economic impact.

🌼 Among chocolate, mountains, and cows, the edelweiss stands as one of Switzerland’s most iconic symbols. 🇨🇭



You can find it on the 5-franc coin, on military insignia, and even in the logo of a Swiss airline. Today, it grows in the Alps at 2,000 to 3,000 meters of altitude, on exposed limestone slopes, where it withstands strong winds and intense sunlight. 🏔️



However, the edelweiss is not originally from the Alps: it is believed to have migrated from Asia during the Ice Age. 🌏



In the 19th century, it became a symbol of courage, as picking it often required climbing steep and dangerous rock faces. With the rise of tourism, the flower was threatened by over-picking. While it is no longer considered endangered at the federal level, it remains protected in several cantons.



Considered “kitsch” in the 20th century, it experienced a revival in the 1990s, driven by renewed interest in tradition and authenticity. Today, the edelweiss represents simplicity, quality, and a deep connection to the Alpine landscape.

⚖️ Today, let us remember that violence and discrimination against LGBTIQ people have no place in our society. In Switzerland, the principle of equality and the prohibition of all forms of discrimination are fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

🛡️ In January 2026, the Federal Council adopted the first National Action Plan to Combat Hate Crime against LGBTIQ Persons 2026-2030.

With its three areas of action - 1️⃣ support and protection, 2️⃣ prevention, and 3️⃣ monitoring - the National Action Plan aims to reduce hate crimes as well as other acts of violence and discrimination against LGBTIQ people, protect their dignity, and strengthen awareness-raising efforts among civil society and institutions.

Reviving Soybeans and Strengthening Markets in Southern Shan State

Over 1,400 farmers in Southern Shan State are now cultivating soybeans using sustainable, climate-resilient practices supported by 𝐓𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐲𝐢 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐛 (TFH), a locally rooted social enterprise. By improving access to quality inputs like Bokashi, EM, and Fish Amino Acid (FAA), and linking farmers with reliable buyers, TFH is helping restore both productivity and market confidence in a crop that had long been abandoned.

Through partnerships with processors such as EABC, Nike Tofu Factory, and “T” Tofu Factory, predictable market demand has been secured. Farmers like 𝐃𝐚𝐰𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐲𝐞 and 𝐃𝐚𝐰 𝐇𝐥𝐚 𝐌𝐮 have seen positive results, with returns on investment of 147% and up to 4.5 million MMK earned per season—over four times previous maize income.
