An emergency meeting of Ulaanbaatar's city officials was held to discuss pressing issues facing the capital and review the progress of ongoing work by relevant agencies. From August 15 to September 12, private vehicles will be allowed to enter the road network based on an odd-even license plate system.

Most parts of Mongolia are expected to experience hot weather over the next 10 days, through to August 13. However, the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring has warned that some areas may experience thunderstorms and heavy rain, increasing the risk of flash floods, hail, strong winds, and lightning. Residents are advised to remain alert and take any necessary precautions.

Fuel supply and storage capacity have come under renewed focus in Mongolia following fuel shortages reported after the Naadam holiday. Officials say the disruption was caused by a sharp increase in demand and reduced fuel deliveries from Russia, while additional shipments have already arrived and measures are underway to strengthen the country's strategic fuel reserves.

Tolls on Mongolia's international and state highways have increased by between two and five times, in accordance with a government resolution adopted on July 1, 2026. Under the new tariff, the toll for passenger vehicles has increased from MNT 1,000 to MNT 5,000, while the fee for trucks has risen from MNT 10,000 to MNT 20,000 .

Mongolia is just two weeks away from hosting the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) in Ulaanbaatar for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Ahead of the conference, members of the media toured the venues and facilities that will host the event from August 17 to 28. As of today, preparations for COP17 are at 90 percent complete.
