The Montserrat Amateur Society this week conducted simplex tests in the North of Montserrat.

Simplex means that radios transmit to each other directly, without going through a repeater. Repeaters are machines which enhance transmission by taking weaker or far signals and transmitting them stronger and over far distances.

This was to test our coverage using base, mobile and handhelds in the event repeaters are disabled. It was also an opportunity to practice relaying information between stations.

The MARS currently operates the following repeaters;
UHF on Silver Hills - 443.700 mhz (+5.00 shift)
VHF in Salt Spring - 146.970 Mhz (-0.600 shift)
VHF Cross-band Garibaldi Hill - 146.900 (-0.600 shift)

Congratulations on a great job.73

The group went hiking this morning. We had fun and an assessment of a potential repeater site. We tested the site for radio coverage, installation, and accessibility in emergencies.

The best signal was probably the amount of manciport we got.
