📢 Round-Up of a Busy Week in PMO! 📅
DAY 1-2: On Monday and Tuesday, the Programme Management Office joined the Hon. Premier and the Development Attache (HM Governor's Office in Montserrat) as part of a Montserrat delegation to the UK Trade and Investment Mission in Antigua, hosted by E.P. Chet Greene, and supported by the Antigua and Barbuda High Commission UK, Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority, DMA Invest, UK Business and Trade, The Commonwealth, and the in The Bahamas - British High Commission Nassau. This event connected Montserrat with a range of technical specialists and potential opportunities in the areas of renewable energy, sustainability, infrastructure, aviation, agricultural development and cultural collaboration. Two investors agreed to visit Montserrat later in the week to explore near term investment opportunities (see below). Also on Monday, the Deputy Head of the PMO, Ms Linda A.S. Dias, began her attendance at the Infrastructure and Projects Authority's Infrastructure Foundation Masterclass scheduled for March 11-15, 2024, in London, UK. On Tuesday evening, the PMO attended the National Honours and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Office of the Premier- Montserrat - an incredible event of recognition, music, and culture at the heart of the St Patrick's celebrations.
On Wednesday, the Head of PMO met with mission team from Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) to discuss Montserrat's new strategic outcome framework. The CARTAC team was on island all week, hosted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, and led by Mr Colin Owen, previous Hon. Financial Secretary in Montserrat.
On Thursday, Montserrat hosted a successful trade and investment delegation from DMA Invest and GreenCrowd LLP to explore development and investment opportunities for the island. The dynamic itinerary provided senior level discussions and planning meetings, technical level discussions on geothermal energy, and site visits. Also on Thursday, the PMO supported the Ministry of Finance's roundtable engagement with the delegation from St Helena, including His Excellency the Governor, Air Commodore Nigel Phillips CBE RAF, The Honourable Chief Minister, Mrs Julie Dorne Thomas and The Honourable Chief Secretary, Mrs Susan O’Bey. In the afternoon, the Project Manager for the New National Hospital Project with the Montserrat Ministry of Health & Social Services provided a tour of the Glendon Hospital site and an overview of the new design. On Friday, the new 3D Mammography machine, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, was moved from the Programme Management Office to the Hospital site, in readiness for the installation of the equipment starting next week.
The PMO also held meetings on the new training and development opportunities enabled by the Government of Montserrat's new partnership with the Association for Project Management.
