Another milestone for the second Malta–Sicily interconnector project 🇲🇹🇮🇹

Testing of key 220kV electrical equipment in Türkiye has been completed successfully. The equipment is now being prepared for transport to Malta and Sicily.

This project will double Malta’s interconnection capacity and further strengthen security of supply.

Yesterday, Interconnect Malta’s CEO delivered a presentation on the work currently being undertaken by the company during the 33rd Annual Engineering Conference, organised by the Chamber of Engineers.

ICM is pleased and proud to participate in such events, particularly given the engineering nature of our projects. Through the development of critical energy infrastructure, we are not only supporting the energy needs of our homes and businesses, but also helping to drive forward engineering, innovation, and Malta’s sustainable energy future.

Interconnect Malta ħadet sehem attiv fit-tfassil tal-viżjoni nazzjonali għall-enerġija – 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮’𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁: 𝗔 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Il-proġett offshore wind hu mfassal biex jiġġenera madwar 0.8TWh ta’ enerġija , li jammonta għal kważi kwart tad-domanda tal-pajjiż kif kienet fl-2025.

Malta is taking another step toward a greener future 🌍⚡

Following strong international interest, Interconnect Malta has extended the deadline for submissions on the proposed renewable energy link with North Africa by 10 weeks. This project could supply up to 25% of Malta’s electricity through clean energy, helping drive the country toward carbon neutrality by 2050 while strengthening energy security and stability.

Supporting Malta’s first offshore wind project 🌊🌬️

Interconnect Malta has launched a €3.6 million public tender for the collection of metocean data to support the Government’s floating offshore wind project. This initiative marks a key step towards diversifying Malta’s renewable energy portfolio and enabling the country’s first-ever wind generation ⚡🇲🇹

Over a two-year period, the survey will collect site-specific wind, wave, and environmental data using advanced floating LiDAR technology at two offshore locations within Malta’s Exclusive Economic Zone. This data will help reduce uncertainty, support bankable investment decisions, and enable robust project development 📊
