The Armed Forces of Maltaโ€™s Maritime Squadron held a solemn ceremony in memory of the seven Armed Forces of Malta and Malta Police Force personnel who tragically lost their lives aboard P23 (then C23) on Friday 7th September 1984.

The commemoration took place at the Maritime Squadronโ€™s Hay Wharf Base in Floriana, beginning with Holy Mass concelebrated by the Armed Forces of Malta and Malta Police Force Chaplains followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and a moment of reflection at the P23 monument.

The Armed Forces of Malta honor the courage, service, and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the line of duty, and we remain steadfast in keeping their memory alive. ๐Ÿซก

Earlier this afternoon, Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Malta) coordinated a response following reports of five divers experiencing difficulties in the vicinity of the Roลผi shipwreck, off ฤŠirkewwa.

Armed Forces of Malta, Civil Protection Department, and Malta Red Cross maritime assets were immediately deployed to the area to provide assistance.

All five divers were recovered safely and transferred to Mater Dei Hospital personnel for further medical assessment.

During the operation, RCC Malta received a separate report concerning another group of divers in the area who were initially unaccounted for. A subsequent intervention by response personnel confirmed that these divers were safe and did not require any further assistance.

This afternoon, the Armed Forces of Malta received a report from the Malta Police Force regarding a suspected explosive device located on a pavement along Qormi Road, ฤฆamrun.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel were immediately deployed to the scene to assess the situation. A safety cordon was established by the Malta Police Force while specialist personnel carried out the necessary procedures to ensure the safety of the public and the surrounding area.

Following an assessment and verification process, Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) Procedures were carried out to render the area safe.

The Armed Forces of Malta would like to thank the Malta Police Force and all responding personnel for their cooperation and professionalism throughout the operation.

The Armed Forces of Malta hosted a Vienna Document 2011 Evaluation Visit between Monday 31st August and today, Wednesday 2nd September 2026, as part of Maltaโ€™s continued commitment to transparency, confidence-building and cooperation in the security sphere.

During the visit, the evaluation team visited various AFM units, including 1 Regiment, Air Wing and Maritime Squadron, gaining an insight into their respective capabilities, roles and operations. ๐Ÿช–โœˆ๏ธโš“๏ธ

This afternoon, the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), through the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Malta), coordinated and conducted a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation to assist a crew member aboard a bulk carrier who suffered a serious medical emergency.

Upon landing, the crew member was handed over to medical personnel at Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment.

Yesterday, the Armed Forces of Malta supported an open water swim challenge undertaken by Shawn Mifsud in St Paul's Bay in aid of Puttinu Cares.

Shawn swam from the St Paul's Islands to Gillieru Bay with the aim of raising funds and collecting donations for the charitable organisation. An Armed Forces of Malta P-06 vessel from Gozo Command was designated as the official support vessel for the challenge.

After ferrying Shawn and his support team from shore to the starting point, the Armed Forces of Malta crew accompanied him throughout the swim to ensure safety and provide assistance as required.

An Armed Forces of Malta rescue swimmer also accompanied Shawn in the water for the duration of the challenge. After swimming approximately 1.2 kilometres in just over an hour, Shawn successfully reached Gillieru Bay, where he was welcomed by family and friends who congratulated him on his achievement.

The Armed Forces of Malta congratulates Shawn Mifsud on this commendable accomplishment and is proud to have supported this worthy initiative. The Armed Forces of Malta also encourages the public to support Shawn's efforts by contributing to his fundraising campaign in aid of Puttinu Cares, helping the organisation continue its invaluable work for patients and their families.
