Preening at sunset.

Upon arrival at First Camp Gränna - Vättern I met this lovely Common Redshank. Currently going through the hundreds of photos I took of this one.

Nature is simply stunning.

The Grey Heron | Ardea cinerea | has a wingspan of approximately 1.75–1.95 metres, with broad wings adapted for slow, energy-efficient flight. During flight, it exhibits a characteristic deep, deliberate wingbeat, alternating powerful downstrokes with brief glides. Its neck is folded into an S-shape and its long legs extend beyond the tail, creating a distinctive aerodynamic profile that helps distinguish it from other large European wading birds.

In Gränna, we encountered several Linnets on our morning walks along the Harbour area. Their call while flying over is simply stunning. This particular one stole the show.

Our flight from Liverpool Airport was in the early afternoon and we still had to drive from Thornwick Bay and cross England from East to West. But that did not stop me from waking up early to say goodbye to the wonderful seabirds at Thornwick Bay.

Well, besides the wonderful seabirds and some songbirds, there was this beauty. First photo is my first sighting earlier in the morning around 6.30am and the second ones are later that morning as I was leaving.

Quite a successful breakfast hunt 👍

So it’s late in the afternoon before the sum was about to start its descent, when I’m walking along the Bempton Cliffs looking at Gannets and Kittiwakes when all of a sudden I hear the call!!!

The world’s fastest bird was looking for dinner.

Not my first Peregrine Falcon sighting but surely my most exciting. It flew by several times amongst the panic it created amongst its potential prey. I panicked a bit too. Which shutter speed should I use for the world’s fastest bird??? But its not in full attack mode here.

It eventually did not decide to feed anywhere in the vicinity and after circling around me a few times, it decided to move forward.

One of my favorite birding moments of 2026 for sure!!

Walking through a European woodland area during the early morning hours?

Listen for the Nuthatch trying to crack open a nut. 🌰

They wedge large nuts or seeds into cracks in tree bark and hammer them open with their strong, pointed bill.
