🚨 INAUGURATION OF NEW CPD HEADQUARTERS AND FIRE DISPATCH OPERATIONS CENTRE 🚨

The CPD has officially inaugurated its newly refurbished Headquarters and state-of-the-art Fire Dispatch Operations Centre (FDOC), in the presence of the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Hon. Glenn Bedingfield, and the Director General of Civil Protection, Mr. Peter Paul Coleiro.

With an investment exceeding €1.5 million, this project marks a significant milestone in the continued modernization of the Civil Protection Department.

The investment includes the complete refurbishment and expansion of the Headquarters administration building, doubling its previous capacity and providing improved facilities and working environments for CPD personnel.

At the heart of this investment is the new state-of-the-art Fire Dispatch Operations Centre, equipped with the latest technologies and AI-integrated features to enhance emergency response coordination, operational efficiency and real-time situational awareness.

The project also includes the introduction of an advanced vehicle monitoring system, with 40 frontline emergency vehicles equipped with five cameras each. This system enables the transmission of real-time visual information directly to the FDOC, providing dispatchers and operational commanders with improved situational awareness during emergency incidents.

This investment represents another important step in strengthening the Department's operational capabilities, supporting its personnel and enhancing the emergency services provided to the Maltese and Gozitan communities.

🚨 PUBLIC ADVICE – ROUGH SEA CONDITIONS 🚨

The CPD is urging the public to exercise extreme caution around the coastline during rough sea conditions.

Rough seas can be extremely powerful and unpredictable, even for experienced swimmers. This is particularly important for visitors who may not be familiar with Malta’s coastline and how quickly sea conditions can become dangerous.

⚠️ During rough sea conditions:
• Do not attempt to swim or jump into the sea.
• Keep a safe distance from the shoreline, rocks and exposed coastal areas.
• Never underestimate the force of waves and currents.
• Do not put your own life, or the lives of others and emergency responders, at unnecessary risk.
• In an emergency, call 112 immediately.

Earlier today, CPD rescuers from Fire Stations 5 and 10 responded to St Peter’s Pool, where seven swimmers required assistance to safely return to land after jumping into rough seas.

All seven individuals were assessed on site by the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department medical team and, fortunately, were discharged on scene.

As a precautionary measure, access to the area was closed with the assistance of Malta Police Force officers from the 5th Police District.

The CPD strongly reminds everyone: when the sea is rough, stay out of the water and keep a safe distance from the shoreline. Do not risk your life, or the lives of those who may have to come to your rescue.
