Vendomme Tower, M'Xlokk
This restoration project began with documenting the existing structure, researching its heritage, and carefully planning each intervention. Through meticulous conservation work, the building has been recently restored while preserving its original character and architectural significance.

Built in 1715, the tower, also referred to as Craite Redoubt (Ridott tal-Qrajten), was constructed by the Order of St. John. Completed in two years and the tower’s construction cost 1,051 scudi at the time.

Bdew xogħlijiet estensivi ta’ restawr fuq is-Sur ta’ San Nikola, magħruf ukoll bħala s-Sur ta’ Bieb il-Polverista, li jifforma parti integrali mil-Linji tal-Kottonera li hi waħda mill-aktar sistemi ta’ fortifikazzjonijiet storikament sinifikanti f’Malta.

Ix-xogħlijiet, li qed jitwettqu permezz ta’ fondi lokali huma mistennija jitlestew din is-sena. L-ispiża stmata ta’ dawn ix-xogħlijiet ta’ restawr hija ta’ madwar €700,000.

Is-Sur ta’ San Nikola nbena lejn l-aħħar tas-seklu sbatax fi żmien l-Ordni tal-Kavallieri ta’ San Ġwann, bħala miżura difensiva b’reazzjoni għat-theddida ta’ attakk Ottoman wara l-waqgħa ta’ Kandia. Dawn il-fortifikazzjonijiet kellhom l-għan li jipproteġu l-Port il-Kbir u l-insedjamenti tal-madwar. Dan is-segment jinsab bejn il-Bastjun ta’ San Ġwann u l-Bastjun ta’ San Nikola. Filwaqt li l-Bastjun ta’ San Ġwann ġie restawrat, ix-xogħlijiet ta’ restawr fuq il-Bastjun ta’ San Nikola bdew riċentement, u issa qed jiġu estiżi wkoll għal dan is-sur storiku.

Ix-xogħlijiet previsti jikkonsistu fir-restawr tal-faċċati ta’ wara tas-Sur ta’ San Nikola, inkluż il-ħajt fortifikat fil-livell t’isfel, kif ukoll il-faċċati tal-volti u tal-kmamar li jinsabu fil-parti ta’ fuq tas-sur. L-interventi jinkludu t-tindif tal-ġebel, li bħalissa jinsab affettwat minn ħmieġ bijoloġiku estensiv u swidija fuq il-faċċati kollha. Ġiet identifikata wkoll deterjorazzjoni sinifikanti fil-ġebel, b’ċerti żoni li jinsabu f’kundizzjoni kritika u li jeħtieġu sostituzzjoni tal-materjal. Ħafna minn din id-deterjorazzjoni hija kkawżata kemm mill-elementi naturali kif ukoll mill-effetti tal-ilma u l-melħ.

Ix-xogħlijiet jinkludu wkoll ir-restawr u s-sostituzzjoni ta’ aperturi tal-injam, kif ukoll titjib fis-sistemi tad-drenaġġ tal-ilma mill-livelli tal-pjattaforma, bil-għan li tiġi evitata aktar deterjorazzjoni kkawżata minn perkolazzjoni tal-ilma.
