Earlier today, an Emergency Department team comprising of pre-hospital physicians and nurses, together with ambulance responders, assisted a patient following a fall from height incident in Mosta.
The team provided immediate care at the scene before the patient was transferred to hospital.

Upon arrival at Mater Dei Hospital, the patient was further assisted by the in-hospital Trauma Team, ensuring continuity of specialised care from the incident location through to the hospital.

A coordinated multidisciplinary response across pre and in-hospital services.

Ringrazzjament kbir lil dawk kollha li għamlu dan possibbli; mit-timijiet tal-Proġetti u l-Inġinerija li ħadmu biex tfasslet u inbniet din is-sala għat-timijiet kliniċi, operattivi, u l-infermiera li assiguraw il-ftuħ tas-sala b’mod koordinat u sigur.

Inħarsu 'l quddiem biex fil-jiem li ġejjin tinfetaħ ukoll is-sala l-oħra - Medical Ward 14. Flimkien dawn is-swali ġodda fjamanti wasslu għal żieda ta' 48 sodda oħra tal-mediċina fl-Isptar Mater Dei.

A sincere thank you to everyone who made this possible; from the Projects and Engineering teams who worked to develop and deliver the new ward, to our clinical, operational and nursing staff who ensured a smooth and successful transition.

We now look forward to the opening of Medical Ward 14 in the coming days. Together, these two new wards will increase Mater Dei Hospital’s capacity by a further 48 medical beds, strengthening our ability to meet the growing needs of our patients.

𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬

From the 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, referrals from clinicians to Outpatient Clinics at Mater Dei Hospital and the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre will only be accepted through the electronic ticket of referral system.

This change will make the referral process more efficient, helping us to:

✅ Process referrals more effectively
✅ Improve referral tracking
✅ Facilitate the vetting of referrals and the assessment of eligibility for free treatment
✅ Provide better patient care

Referrals to the Emergency Department will continue to follow the existing pathway.

We thank all referring clinicians for their cooperation.

Yesterday, two concurrent emergency responses were managed by the pre-hospital teams of the Mater Dei Hospital Emergency Department.

In Mellieħa, a person was injured after falling from height onto a parked vehicle. At Għar Lapsi, another person suffered heat exhaustion in a remote area. The patient was treated and stabilised on site before being transferred to a Civil Protection Department RHIB and conveyed safely to a waiting emergency ambulance.

The responses involved, Emergency Ambulances, Emergency Physician Support Units, Emergency Nurse Response teams and Rapid Basic Life Support units.

Our thanks go to the Civil Protection Malta, The Malta Police Force and the Malta Red Cross for their assistance.

💙💙Big news for our patients!

We’re expanding our services to bring more innovative medicines closer to those who need them.
The introduction of Emicizumab is an important step forward — it complements the treatments we already provide and will meaningfully improve quality of life for people who rely on this therapy.

💙💙Because access to better care matters !
